Wonersh Surgery is a 5 GP Partner PMS training practice with approximately 10500 patients located in the Surrey Hills near Guildford.
A vacancy has arisen for a 20 hour per week Practice Nurse / Nurse Practitioner at our busy GP surgery in to work alongside the Lead Nurse (Nurse Practitioner/Prescriber), Practice Nurses and HCA's.
The clinical team comprises of 5 GP Partners, 6 Salaried GP's and a Paramedic Practitioner, and the management team comprises of a Practice Manager, Assistant Practice Manager and Reception Supervisor.
You need to be able to work effectively within a busy team as well as independently and have good communication skills, and ideally have experience with EMIS Web.
Person Specification
- Registered with the NMC as an Adult Nurse
- Some experience as a Practice Nurse within a General Practice environment
- Chronic Disease qualification in at least one of the areas of speciality (Preferable)
- Foundation training in adult and childhood immunisations
- Wound care management including Doppler
- Ear Care (preferable)
- Trained in cytology / smear sample taker (preferable)
- Travel Vaccination training (preferable)
The role consists of a range of skills, including but not limited to:
- Assist in and perform routine tasks related to patient care as directed by the Lead Nurse, GPs and Practice Manager/Assistant Practice Manager
- Chronic Disease Management -must be competent in at least one of the Chronic Disease conditions – Asthma, COPD and Diabetes
- Cytology
- Wound care / ulcer care /Doppler
- Removal of Sutures & Staples
- New Patient Medicals/Urinalysis
- Routine immunizations/Childhood immunisations
- ECGs
- Venepuncture
- Hypertension Management
- Ear syringing
- Requesting pathology tests, for example urine culture, swabs
- Contraception
- Travel Vaccinations (not essential)
- Following agreed clinical protocols with referral to senior nurses or GPs as appropriate
Maintaining and cleaning equipment used by the nurses and GPs - Chaperoning and assisting patients who are being examined by another clinician.
- Maintain general tidiness and cleanliness of nurses and treatment rooms
- Ordering of Health Promotion Literature
- Ordering of stock when required
- Ordering of vaccinations to maintain stock levels
- Participation in administrative systems in the Practice
- At all times there will be a need to maintain accurate records
- A duty to advise senior nurses of potential problems or errors
- Attend and participate in any Practice meetings when required
- Any other delegated duties appropriate to the post

Salary to be negotiated depending on experience.
Please note that we are not located close to Guildford Station and although there is a bus service we recommend that candidates have a car.
As a norm the role is Monday to Friday covering shifts between 07h30 to 18h30, with occasional weekends where required for example Flu vaccination campaigns etc
