Product Designer

(UX / UI – B2B Payments, Card Network Portals, Internal Tools)

Location:
UK (Flexible / Hybrid)

About the Role

We are looking for a Product Designer who is energised by challenge, transformation, and the opportunity to shape design culture from the ground up.

Our client has recently undergone acquisition and is now entering a critical phase of modernising their internal B2B platforms, card network portals, and partner-facing applications used by payment providers, issuers, acquirers and merchants.

Today, the organisation sits in the 'Limited' stage of UX maturity. UX activity happens sporadically, systems are legacy and not fully connected, and design has not yet been embedded as a strategic discipline.

This role is for someone who is excited by that reality — not discouraged by it.

If you are motivated by creating order from ambiguity, raising the bar, building design foundations, championing the user, and showing stakeholders what great looks like through evidence and outcomes, this role is for you.

What You'll Do

Champion Product & UX Design Maturity

  • Lead the introduction and consistent adoption of UX best practices, even where they have not existed before.
  • Help the organisation transition from sporadic UX efforts to intentional, systematic design thinking.
  • Identify small, quick wins and design improvements that can build momentum and influence stakeholders.
  • Promote the value of design by telling compelling stories using data, research, and prototypes.

Own the Design of Key B2B Systems

  • Reimagine and modernise internal applications, card network portals, and partner-facing platforms.
  • Translate complex processes into intuitive interfaces and seamless experiences.
  • Untangle legacy systems, disconnected workflows, and inconsistent interfaces to deliver clearer, scalable solutions.

Deliver Hands-On, End-to-End Product Design

  • Create artefacts including:
  • User journeys
  • Service blueprints
  • Wireframes
  • High-fidelity UI designs
  • Prototypes
  • Leverage design systems (existing or new) to bring consistency across products.

Drive Human-Centred Design in a Lean Team

  • Advocate for the customer and end users in every project.
  • Work with limited resources, applying pragmatic research and iterative design methods.
  • Help define future processes, workflows and design standards.

Collaborate Cross-Functionally

  • Partner with Product, Engineering, Operations, Compliance, and senior leadership.
  • Influence stakeholders who may have limited exposure to UX.
  • Break down silos and ensure design thinking becomes part of how teams deliver value.

Communicate with Clarity and Influence

  • Confidently present work and thinking across all levels — from product teams to executives.
  • Use insights, evidence, and design rationale to bring stakeholders along on the journey.

About You

You are a designer who thrives in environments that need structure, leadership, and transformation, not just execution.

You enjoy the challenge of helping an organisation grow its design maturity and understand the importance of being both a craftsperson and an evangelist.

You bring:

  • Experience designing complex systems, B2B platforms, internal tools, or enterprise software.
  • A strong portfolio that demonstrates your process, not just polished visuals.
  • A calm, structured, and strategic approach to problem solving.
  • Comfort working in ambiguity and shaping design in a lean, evolving environment.
  • Ability to negotiate between user needs, business objectives, and technical constraints.

Technical Skills – Must Have

  • Design Operations
(establishing rituals, workflows, and design processes)
  • Design Systems
(using, contributing to, or creating them)
  • Figma
    (core UI/UX toolset)
  • JIRA
    (working within agile environments)

Why This Role Matters

You will directly influence the future of product design, UX culture, and digital experience across the organisation.

This is an opportunity to become the first true design champion, laying foundations that will impact partners, customers, and internal teams for years to come.

If you're looking for a role where the challenge is big, the impact is meaningful, and the design transformation is in your hands – we'd love to speak with you.
