Role Description

This is a full-time on-site role for a Fire Alarm Service and Installation Engineer based in the South East and surrounding areas
ensuring that fire detection and life safety systems are fully operational, compliant with the latest British Standards, and meet customer requirements.

Key Responsibilities

The job role typically involves a mix of installation, maintenance, and emergency response duties. 

  • Installation and Commissioning
    : Installing new fire alarm and detection systems (both conventional and addressable), including control panels, detectors, and all associated cabling and equipment. This also includes testing and commissioning new installations to ensure they function as intended and comply with design specifications and standards such as BS 5839.
  • Servicing and Maintenance
    : Carrying out routine planned preventative maintenance (PPM) on existing systems to ensure ongoing reliability and compliance, including Fire Extinguishers and emergency lighting.
  • Fault Finding and Repairs
    : Diagnosing and rectifying faults, and performing reactive repairs or minor works (e.g., device replacements, panel swaps) on fire alarm systems or other systems within the business.
  • Documentation and Reporting
    : Completing all necessary documentation, such as installation certificates, service reports, as-fitted drawings, and manuals, accurately and on time.
  • Emergency Call-Outs
    : Participating in an on-call rota to provide out-of-hours emergency support and fault resolution for clients.
  • Customer Service and Communication
    : Acting as a primary point of contact with clients on-site, providing excellent customer service, offering training on system use, and advising on potential system upgrades or improvements.
  • Health and Safety Compliance
    : Adhering strictly to health and safety regulations and company policies at all times to ensure a safe working environment for themselves, colleagues, and customers.

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Technical Knowledge
    : Strong technical knowledge of various fire alarm systems (e.g., Morley, Kentec, Advanced, Gent) and electrical engineering principles.
  • Industry Standards
    : A full understanding and the ability to work in accordance with relevant British Standards and legislation, particularly BS 5839 (fire alarms) and BS 5266 (emergency lighting).
  • Qualifications
    : Relevant qualifications are highly valued.
  • FIA (Fire Industry Association) Certifications
     (e.g., Units 1-5 in Installation, Maintenance, Commissioning) are often preferred.
  • NVQ Level 3 in Fire Detection and Alarm Systems
     or an equivalent electrical/electronic engineering qualification would be advantageous.
  • A valid 
    ECS or CSCS card
     is typically required for site access.
  • A full, valid UK driving licence is essential, as the role is field-based.
  • Additional training will be given to the right candidate.
  • Soft Skills

: Strong problem-solving, time management, communication, and customer service skills are crucial.
