Job Description

This person will serve as a reference for the DevOps squad to achieve excellent technical outcomes, with a strong focus on CI/CD and automation.

Their role is to ensure that SRE and Engineering decisions are well-informed and consider various factors such as technical debt, system design, stability, reliability, monitoring, observability, and business needs.

This person will also be responsible for maintaining platform resilience, introducing new technologies, mentoring junior engineers, and making impactful technical contributions.

Technical Leadership in CI/CD and Automation:

  • Lead the squad to implement and optimize CI/CD pipelines.
  • Develop and maintain IaC scripts to automate infrastructure provisioning and management.
  • Ensure the use of best practices in IaC to promote consistency, repeatability, and compliance across the infrastructure.
  • Identify opportunities to automate routine operational tasks to improve efficiency and reduce manual effort.
  • Implement automation solutions to streamline deployment, scaling, and maintenance processes.

Technical Contributions:

  • Make high-impact technical contributions recognized by the team and collective.
  • Write effective post-mortem documentation for both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Standards and Practices
  • Enable and guide groups to improve coding standards and best practices, especially around non-functional requirements.
  • Promote best practices in CI/CD and automation.

Mentorship in CI/CD and Automation:

  • Proactively sponsor, mentor, and provide constructive feedback to engineers across the company.
  • Review Pull Requests and source code from others, focusing on improving CI/CD and automation practices.

Platform Resilience:

  • Maintain CICD resilience by avoiding unplanned or uncommunicated changes.
  • Serve as an example of diligence and reliability to the team.

Consultation and Problem-Solving:

  • Serve as a consultant for engineers from different squads.
  • Work on complex and unknown problems under pressure.
  • Provide expertise in CI/CD and automation to solve technical challenges.

Technology Trends:

  • Stay up-to-date with technology trends, especially in CI/CD and automation.
  • Contribute insights to the squad's strategy based on the latest advancements.

Proof of Concept (POC) Execution:

  • Lead and execute POCs to introduce new CI/CD and automation technologies to the team.

This is a remote position. A remote position does not require job duties be performed within proximity of a Visa office location. Remote positions may be required to be present at a Visa office with scheduled notice.

Qualifications

Skills and Competencies:

Proficiency with CI/CD tools such as ArgoCD and Codefresh

Expertise in IaC tools like Terraform

Experience with automating deployment processes and integrating CI/CD pipelines

Good knowledge of Docker and Kubernetes for containerization and orchestration

Experience with service mesh technologies such as Istio

Proficiency with monitoring and observability tools such as Grafana, Grafana Loki, Honeycomb, OpenTelemetry, and Prometheus

Proficiency with AWS

Experience with Support and Oncall
