London, Greater London, United Kingdom The London Clinic Full time £29,284 - £33,445 per year
Job title: Healthcare Assistant - Band 3
Salary: £29,284 - £33,445
Department: Day Surgery Unit
Job Type: Permanent, Full Time
Hours: 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday

About Us

Established in 1932, The London Clinic is one of the UK's largest independent charitable hospitals, located in the heart of Harley Street. We employ around 1,200 staff and operate across eight premises, including our main hospital which spans eight floors with 234 beds, 10 state-of-the-art theatres, and a 13-bed Intensive Care Unit.

Our Day Surgery Unit, situated on the 3rd floor of our main hospital at 20 Devonshire Place, provides expert care for patients undergoing day case procedures across a wide range of specialities including general surgery, ophthalmic, ENT, plastics, gynaecology, and orthopaedics. The unit is designed to support a safe and efficient patient journey, from admission to discharge, with a strong focus on comfort, dignity, and recovery.

Joining the Day Surgery team means working in a dynamic and supportive environment where teamwork, learning, and patient-centred care are at the heart of everything we do.

The Role:

We are seeking an experienced and compassionate HCA (Band 3) with proven ward-based experience to join our Day Surgery Unit at The London Clinic. This role offers the opportunity to work in a busy, patient-focused environment where you will play a key part in supporting the nursing and medical teams to deliver high standards of personalised care across a wide range of day case procedures.

You will assist with the daily operation of the Day Surgery and Walk-in Walk-out areas, providing hands-on clinical and administrative support to ensure the smooth running of the unit. The role requires a confident and adaptable individual with strong communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide direct support to nursing staff and consultants in preparing patients for surgery and recovery.
  • Perform basic clinical observations including temperature, pulse, blood pressure, and oxygen saturation.
  • Carry out routine procedures such as urinalysis, pregnancy testing, ECGs, phlebotomy, wound dressings, and venepuncture once trained and competent.
  • Assist with patient admissions, transfers, and discharges, ensuring all documentation is accurate and up to date.
  • Maintain high standards of cleanliness and infection control within the department.
  • Act as a chaperone during clinical procedures, supporting patients with dignity and respect at all times.
  • Support the nursing team in maintaining stock levels and preparing rooms for admissions.
Skills and Experience:
  • NVQ Level 3 in Care (or equivalent qualification).
  • Previous hospital experience is essential, ideally within a surgical or day case setting.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to build rapport with patients and colleagues.
  • Confident in performing basic clinical tasks under supervision and keen to continue developing clinical competencies.
  • Strong organisational and IT skills, including familiarity with electronic patient systems.
  • Reliable, adaptable, and committed to maintaining high professional standards.
Apply now to join our dedicated team and be part of an organisation that truly values its people.

Closing date: Monday 17th November.
