Description
A fantastic opportunity has arisen for a Director of Operations to support our global operations and ongoing expansion at this highly technical and innovative laboratory services business. The postholder will work closely with the Company's existing directors and will have a wide range of responsibilities including leading Group Operational delivery, while overseeing HR, Quality, IT, Commercial Management and Administration. Scaled Solutions has recently become part of the larger Celnor group and with this comes added investment to secure future growth. The position will be based at the Company's head office in UK but with overall responsibility for operational delivery across all Scaled Solutions facilities which currently covers laboratories in UK, USA, UAE and Malaysia.
This new post increases the number of Directors in the Company. The key responsibilities of this role are to oversee and direct group operations while relieving pressure on the existing directors to expand in the technical, sales and marketing activities, ensuring the business achieves operational delivery and financial management across the group allowing for continued year-on-year growth. This will be achieved via expanding lab facilities across our operating regions together with improved operational and inter group efficiency, and by ensuring appropriate systems, processes and people are in place for delivering against the objectives. As a result of Scaled Solutions becoming part of the Celnor group, it is in the process of investing in a number of international "growth projects" which will increase both the size and capabilities of its UK and international laboratories over the next 6-12 months. These initiatives are expected to lead to increased revenues and profitability in coming years and the postholder will be expected to oversee and direct such new activities alongside existing activities to ensure optimum capacity is maintained across all laboratories.
Experience as a senior manager / director of a group of inter-related laboratories and / or international laboratories is critical. Direct experience of a production chemistry-based laboratory and the oil and gas industry is advantageous.
Key Responsibilities
Operational Delivery
- Maximise operational efficiency across all international regions through the efficient allocation of resources and management of projects
- Lead and co-ordinate the ongoing operations overseas and within the UK facility by supporting current operational and technical managers to ensure work progresses within budget and to deliver month on month financial delivery
- Direct complex inter-lab laboratory studies to maximise operational efficiency and capacity in partnership with other regions.
- Bring best in class experience and practices to the business
Financial management
- Assume responsibility for the preparation and delivery of the group's annual operating and capital budgets in line with the existing growth targets, reporting to the Company's board / parent Company
- Delivery of Company's operational objectives by careful oversight and ownership of various budgets, company and group P & L accounts and cash flow.
- Maximise revenue generation and profitability by improving turnaround times of complex projects and ensuring efficient internal and client financial management
- Improve efficiencies to further enhance financial delivery
Strategic plan
- Work in partnership with existing Directors and senior staff to deliver against planned expansion and increased operational delivery
People leadership
- Lead a team of up to 6-10 direct reports and oversee a broader team of 50-80 FTEs
- Develop a culture that generates motivated, engaged and empowered individuals and attracts top quality talent
Compliance delivery
- Ensure the company maintains its registration to ISO 9001, and ESMA in UAE. Introduce and maintain practices that comply with ISO 14001, ISO 17025 and ISO 45001
- Ensure H&S compliance is central to all aspects of the group's operations
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
Essential Skills/experience
- Minimum 5 years board or senior management experience in the oil and gas industry or other complex laboratory service company
- Commercial experience of P&L, working capital and capital investment and delivery against capital projects
- Experience and understanding of contract and project management within a production chemistry-based laboratory
- Direct experience in managing operational delivery including effective scheduling and delivery of multiple, complex laboratory based projects often requiring services from different labs and / or different international regions.
- Experience in people & culture development and leadership
- Experience of best in class project management principles and techniques
- Knowledge and responsibility for Health and Safety and ISO compliance
