Data and Systems Administrator
Davidsons Chemists are looking for a Data and Systems Administrator to take over responsibility for maintaining and supporting our internal data systems and in-house reporting solutions.
This role would suit someone with a solid technical foundation who is looking to take ownership of an established role and develop it further. It may particularly appeal to someone early in their career who wants to build experience and shape the position over time.
You'll work directly with our internal data stores, supporting the systems that underpin reporting and analytics across the company. Most of the code and data processes are already established — your main focus will be on maintaining and ensuring the reliability of what's in place, with opportunities to refine and enhance it over time.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain and support existing SQL-based data integrations, ensuring data is accurate, reliable, and securely stored.
- Work directly with Davidsons Chemists data stores to extract, transform, and load data from a range of disparate sources.
- Use and maintain SQL Server command-line tools (including BCP utility) and stored procedures.
- Support and maintain our in-house solutions. These are ASP.NET Core web applications written in C#.
- Support the use of Power BI for internal reporting — maintaining existing dashboards and assisting in the creation of new ones as required.
- Collaborate with internal teams to identify ways to improve data processes and streamline information flow.
About You
We're looking for someone with a logical mindset and an eye for detail — someone who enjoys making systems work efficiently and reliably.
Essential skills and experience:
- Working knowledge of SQL and relational database concepts.
- Familiarity with SQL stored procedures, BCP utility, and SQL Server command-line tools.
- Some experience with C# and ASP.NET Core applications (preferably .NET 6).
- Awareness of Microsoft Identity / Entra ID (OpenID Connect).
- Awareness of Microsoft Azure services and how they integrate with SQL Server and .NET applications would be required.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Ability to learn quickly and work independently once trained.
- A collaborative approach, with a willingness to suggest improvements.
- The ideal candidate will demonstrate the ability to adapt quickly to evolving priorities and shifting objectives in a dynamic environment.
Desirable (not essential):
- Experience using Power BI or another data visualisation tool.
- Exposure to data integration or ETL processes.
- Previous work experience involving data management.
Qualifications
- A degree in Computing, Computer Science, Software Engineering, Data Science, or a related discipline,
- or equivalent practical experience in a similar technical or data-related role.
Why Join Us
Davidsons Chemists has been a trusted name in Scottish healthcare for over 125 years. Our data systems support everything from business performance tracking to patient safety — and you'll be at the heart of keeping those systems running smoothly.
This is a chance to develop your technical skills in a supportive environment, working with real-world data challenges, bespoke systems, and modern Microsoft technologies.
You'll report directly to the Operations Director and will receive a full handover and support to get established in the role.
How to Apply
To apply, please send your CV and a short covering statement outlining your interest in the role and any relevant experience or university projects to:
Karen Gordon, Operations Director
Applications will be reviewed as they are received, and shortlisted candidates will be contacted to arrange an interview.
Location: Davidsons Chemists Head Office (Perth)
Contract: Full-time, permanent
Working pattern: Office-based initially, with the potential for hybrid working once established
Reports to: Operations Director
Salary: Depending on experience
