Engineering Manager

Location: RG7 4PR, located between Reading and Basingstoke, with free onsite parking.

Package: £39,280 - £ 58,920 (depending on your suitability, qualifications, and level of experience)

Working pattern: AWE operates a 9-day working fortnight. We will consider flexible working requests so that your work may fit in with your lifestyle. Just let us know your preferred working pattern on your application.

Let us introduce the role

AWE is currently recruiting for an Engineering Manager  to lead a technical team within our Engineering Leadership function.

This is a People Leader role, responsible for delivering critical engineering capabilities aligned to our integrated technical programme. You'll be the main contact point for your team, ensuring high standards of safety, quality, and performance while supporting the delivery of engineering solutions across the business.

Who are we looking for?

We do need you to have the following:

  • ONC/HNC/HND/NVQ3/NVQ4 in a STEM vocational qualification with substantial practical experience.
  • History of working in the Nuclear sector of the Defence Industry
  • Experience of compliance with Licence Conditions/Authorisation Conditions, legislation and regulations
  • Experience directing staff through task management and technical delivery.
  • Strong engineering aptitude, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to manage risk, communicate effectively, and work collaboratively.
  • Competence in IT systems including engineering tools and standard office software.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain the necessary security clearance (British Citizen, UK resident for past 5–10 years).
  • To have completed a recognised system engineering course and/or placement.

  • You will need to obtain and maintain the necessary security clearance for the role. This will be funded by AWE. The nature of our work does mean you need to be a British Citizen who has been resident in the UK for the past 5 years in order to apply for SC clearance and 10 years for DV.

Hybrid working is available for this role on an informal, non-contractual basis. Typically 2/3 days onsite per week.
