Sherborne Schools Group (SSG) is seeking a dynamic and creative Theatre Technician who will support the Theatre & Venue Manager in all aspects of live event production and delivery across the Group, include fulfilling technical requirements within the Group performance spaces. This role provides an exciting opportunity to play a central part in both the success of the individual schools and the continued development of the Group as a whole.

Core Responsibilities

  • Assist the Theatre & Venue Manager in liaising with Drama Departments, Events Managers and Commercial Enterprises to ensure the audio and visual (AV) requirements of the Group are captured and appropriately supported.
  • Assist the Theatre & Venue Manager in the provision of AV support for School events across multiple venues and sites including routine events e.g. assemblies, presentations, visiting speakers etc.
  • Assist with technical aspects of all events and performances across the Group including;
  • Operate lighting, sound, and AV systems for performances and events.
  • Set up and dismantle staging, rigging, and technical equipment.
  • Provide technical support during shows, events, lectures, concerts and conferences.
  • Carry out get-ins, fit-ups, and get-outs as required.
  • Assistance with the maintenance and safety of equipment including:
  • Maintain and inspect all technical equipment, reporting and resolving faults.
  • Ensure all health and safety protocols are followed, including risk assessments and safe working practices.
  • Conduct routine checks and PAT testing (if qualified).
  • Keep up-to-date with current understanding of production and AV procedures in multiple disciplines and multiple venues across the Group.
  • Provide technical support to academic drama practical examinations and performances taking place, as requested.
  • Be on hand to support staff with general concerns with use of venue technology including training colleagues to use AV where appropriate and being available to troubleshoot and offer advice.
  • Assist the Directors of Drama in the delivery of co-curricular activities for pupils designed to promote engagement and a life-long love of the theatre.

Other responsibilities

  • Undertake any other reasonable duties as required by the Theatre & Venue Manager, including providing support across Sherborne Schools Group schools as necessary.
  • Contribute to the wider life of the Group, including events, initiatives, or projects that enhance collaboration between schools.
  • Be flexible in place of work, and undertake duties at other Group schools or sites where required, in order to meet operational or strategic needs.
  • Promote and uphold the values and ethos of Sherborne Schools Group in all professional activities, ensuring consistency across the community.

Hours of Work: 37.5 hours per week.

Evening and weekend work may be required based on performance schedules. Flexibility is essential due to the dynamic nature of events and productions.
