Description
We are seeking a
Proprietary Parts Inspector
to join our Quality Assurance team working on a 6-month fixed term contract. In this crucial role, you will perform dimensional and visual inspections of proprietary components to ensure full compliance with engineering drawings, specifications, and the company's high-quality standards. You will help maintain product integrity and reliability by ensuring every part that enters, moves through, or leaves the business meets our exacting requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct dimensional and visual inspections on incoming proprietary parts and aged stock from external vendors using precision measuring instruments (e.g., micrometres, callipers, thread gauges, height gauges, precision pins).
- Verify components against engineering drawings, CAD models, and specifications to ensure conformity to design and tolerance requirements.
- Identify and document non-conformances, initiate corrective action reports, and collaborate with Engineering and Production teams to resolve quality issues.
- Maintain accurate inspection records, traceability, and certification documentation in accordance with company and regulatory standards.
- Ensure all measuring equipment is correctly calibrated, maintained, and used in accordance with procedures.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives to enhance inspection accuracy, efficiency, and quality assurance processes.
- Uphold confidentiality of proprietary data, designs, and inspection methods.
- Demonstrate adaptability and a willingness to learn new skills and techniques as required.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
- Qualification in Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering Technology (certificate or equivalent preferred).
- Experience in engineering inspection, ideally within aerospace, automotive, motorsport, or advanced manufacturing environments.
- Strong understanding of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
- Proficiency with a wide range of inspection tools and equipment, including micrometres, callipers, thread gauges, optical comparators, and surface plates.
- Ability to read and interpret complex engineering drawings and material specifications.
- Familiarity with Quality Management Systems (ISO 9001, AS9100) and document control practices.
- Excellent attention to detail, communication skills, and accuracy in documentation.
- Capability to work independently, managing multiple priorities under tight deadlines.
- Knowledge of materials and manufacturing processes such as machining, casting, and additive manufacturing.
- Experience with digital inspection software and measurement data collection systems.
- Familiarity with ERP/MRP systems for logging inspection results.
- Ability to perform hands-on inspection work involving standing or sitting for prolonged periods and using precision instruments.
