The Group was essential in the race to approve COVID-19 vaccines in 2020 and in supporting the UK to set up its own medicines and devices approvals systems following our exit from the EU. The work we do matters

Its centre of excellence is also responsible for delivering a broad portfolio of change initiatives, both to transform the Agency's legacy technologies and to deliver innovative new solutions, designed around our customers' needs. D&T works in a holistic way to combine digital and technology change, data and information management, project delivery, business process, product management and cultural change to maximise out impact and ensure sustainability.

Job description

We plan to be at the heart of one of the most digitally advanced medical regulators in the world and we need people who can help us deliver that ambition. D&T is a great place to build your career and we are committed to enabling our people to do the best work of their lives.

The Digital & Service Design group provides a number of services through its practice-based model including user-research, service design, business analysis, change management and product management. D&SDG owns the customer experience for the division and is building its in-house capabilities around Digital Product Management and User Centred Design.

What's the role?

We're looking for a knowledgeable Interaction Designer who can contribute to a growing user-centred design practice at the MHRA. The successful candidate will help broaden the capabilities of the practice and be a strong advocate for people who use our services.

You'll be collaboratively working to define patterns that can be used across the agency's services and supporting the team in defining how we communicate the need for a consistent user experience and how we can improve our own design system in the future.

You'll work flexibly in our User Centred Design practice comprising service design, user research and content design. In addition to working within the user centred practice, the postholder will work in multi-disciplinary teams of professionals: including business analysts, software engineers, change managers, product managers and delivery managers.

The successful candidate will have good experience in delivering interaction design with a user-centred, evidence-based approach, liaising with external suppliers and a solid track record of delivering high-quality digital products as well as coordinating customers, colleagues and stakeholders.

At all stages of a project lifecycle, the postholder will be expected to be able to work independently or in collaboration with their multi-disciplinary team. With a good understanding of all user-centred methods for each phase and how interaction design can add value to either discovery or delivery. Being able to creatively problem solve and communicate your decision-making process is a critical part of the role that the postholder will be expected to present on a regular basis to senior stakeholders and service owners.

Key responsibilities:

  • Work closely with user researchers to provide appropriate designs and prototypes, attend user research sessions, discuss findings use evidence to inform and iterate interaction designs
