London, Greater London, United Kingdom Cambridge Consultants Full time
Introduction

If you have experience in the development of RF products, knowledge of what makes RF systems work and the ability to convert ideas into real products then we want you to join our RF Systems team.

Cambridge Consultants has deep expertise in wireless communication technologies, with one of the largest independent wireless development teams in the world. We work across the entire wireless landscape - from high-volume consumer applications such as portable internet-based devices, through to professional high-performance systems such as the air traffic control radios used to govern the US airspace. The markets that we address include telecommunications, healthcare, industrial, satellite, consumer and automotive. This breadth of wireless activity provides tremendous variety to our team.

The role

We are looking for a Graduate RF/uWave Systems Engineer to join our Radio Systems Group within the Telecommunications business unit.

The Radio Systems Group is responsible for delivering designs that range from component sub-systems and modules through to complete radio hardware systems from the digital interface to the antenna. The team works alongside multiple disciplines - such as digital hardware, embedded software and DSP - within the business unit, supporting the delivery of comprehensive radio systems.

As an RF/uWave Systems Engineer you will play a significant role in the following activities:

  • Interfacing with internal project managers, technical authorities and design and test engineers.
  • Defining, specifying and architecting RF/uWave component sub-systems and end to end radio systems
  • Testing and evaluating novel radio architectures and components
  • Simulating and designing RF hardware
About you

You will have a degree (or higher) in electronic engineering or a related discipline, with knowledge of RF/uWave radio systems development, circuit design and measurement.

You will have experience in some of the following areas:

  • Analogue circuit design
  • Radio architecture design
  • Circuit, system and EM simulation tools such as Microwave office, CST and HFSS
  • Component specification and selection
  • Component and radio debug and testing using equipment such as VNA's, spectrum/signal analysers, signal generators etc
  • Schematic capture with tools such as Altium
  • Strong written, documentation and verbal communications skills
  • Strong presentation skills with a client and management focus
  • Guiding PC board layout designers
  • EVT/DVT/PVT testing and analysis
  • Designing and testing to EMC and regulatory standards
  • An understanding of radio link budgets
  • Antenna design desirable

What we can offer

As an RF Systems Engineer, you will play a key role in the creation and development of new ground-breaking wireless systems and products, from initial concept through to successful delivery. Clients come to us to define, design and deliver challenging telecommunications systems and thus, you will gain experience working on novel projects not common in most product companies.

You will have the opportunity to work on ground-breaking wireless designs, for example:

  • Developing a novel air-interface and bespoke communication systems for the Ocado Smart Platform controlling hundreds of robots in grocery distribution centres
  • Prototyping the world's largest commercial airborne antenna to deliver superfast 5G to every corner of the globe
  • Developing the Iridium Extreme satellite phone, the first truly-global 'push-to-talk' mobile communications system

Cambridge Consultants have extensive facilities supporting hardware development engineering:

  • SMT component assembly on PCB
  • EMC emissions test facilities
  • ≤8GHz 360° antenna test facility
  • RF and mmWave labs
