Overview:
We are seeking an experienced
Quantity Surveyor
to join our civil construction team, responsible for managing all costs relating to infrastructure and civil engineering projects from initial estimates through to final accounts. The successful candidate will ensure projects are delivered within budget, comply with contract requirements, and maintain the highest standards of quality and cost control.
Key Responsibilities:
- Cost Estimation & Planning:
Prepare detailed cost estimates, budgets, and tender submissions for civil construction projects, including earthworks, drainage, foundations, roads, utilities, and structural works. - Measurement & Valuation:
Perform accurate quantity take-offs and valuations of completed works, ensuring precise documentation and measurement in accordance with project specifications and industry standards. - Contract Management:
Administer and manage NEC, JCT, or bespoke contract forms, ensuring compliance with contractual obligations and change management procedures. - Procurement:
Prepare and evaluate subcontractor and supplier packages, issue purchase orders, and negotiate terms to achieve best value for the project. - Cost Control:
Monitor and manage project expenditure, track variations, and provide regular cost reports and forecasts to project management and clients. - Risk & Value Management:
Identify potential cost risks and opportunities, supporting project teams with value engineering initiatives to optimise delivery. - Progress Claims & Payments:
Prepare interim payment applications, assess subcontractor claims, and manage final accounts settlement. - Stakeholder Coordination:
Liaise with clients, project managers, engineers, and site teams to ensure accurate communication of cost and contractual matters. - Reporting:
Produce monthly cost reports, cash flow forecasts, and project financial summaries for management review.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent qualification in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or a related discipline.
- Proven experience as a Quantity Surveyor in civil construction (e.g., infrastructure, highways, utilities, or groundworks).
- Strong knowledge of construction contracts (NEC, JCT, FIDIC) and cost management principles.
- Proficient in cost estimation software and Microsoft Excel.
- Excellent numerical, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong communication and negotiation abilities with a proactive approach to stakeholder management.
- Professional accreditation (RICS, CIOB, or similar) preferred but not essential.
