About us
At Halfords, our mission is to inspire and support a lifetime of motoring and cycling. As a specialist retailer, we lead the market through customer-driven innovation and a distinct product range. We are dedicated to providing our customers with an integrated, unique, and convenient service experience, from e-bike and electric vehicle servicing to on-demand solutions. Our commitment is to foster customer loyalty by offering compelling reasons to keep coming back to our stores, ensuring a lifetime of motoring and cycling enjoyment.
The teams at our Support Centre work with every other area of our business, putting them at the heart of the action and playing a key role in our success and growth. Everyone brings their individual knowledge and experience to work every day, working as one team to keep things moving smoothly.
If you're willing to get stuck in, you'll love it here too. So put yourself at the heart of a dynamic, fast-paced working environment where expertise and focus take people far.
The role
As an Estate Surveyor at Halfords, you'll play a key role in managing and optimising a diverse property portfolio that spans more than 700 sites across the UK including retail stores, autocentres and distribution hubs. Reporting to the Group Property Portfolio Manager, you'll take ownership of your region (covering Scotland and Northern England), handling rent reviews, lease renewals, and acquisitions that ensure our estate remains cost-efficient, compliant and strategically positioned for growth. It's a role that offers both autonomy and variety, balancing analytical rigour with hands-on stakeholder engagement.
You'll bring proven experience in estate management, with strong knowledge of lease negotiations, and ideally at least two years' post-qualification experience as an MRICS Chartered Surveyor. You're confident managing complex negotiations and maintaining strong relationships with landlords, agents and internal stakeholders. You're a natural problem-solver, and known as a "safe pair of hands" who delivers results with professionalism and integrity.
This is an opportunity to join a well-established property team at the heart of a business that continues to grow and evolve. You'll enjoy the balance of remote and field-based working, and you'll work alongside experienced peers who value expertise, trust and independence. With a supportive culture and nationwide reach, this is a chance to make a meaningful impact across one of the UK's best-known retail and service brands.
Key responsibilities
- Manage lease renewals, rent reviews, re-gears and acquisitions across your regional estate, ensuring all activity supports the Group property strategy.
- Negotiate all property transactions in a commercial and timely manner, securing the best terms possible for Halfords.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with landlords, agents and external consultants to optimise portfolio performance.
- Support the annual property budgeting process, ensuring accurate forecasting and effective cost management.
- Provide expert estate management advice to internal stakeholders, ensuring property-related decisions align with business objectives.
- Maintain accurate records and databases to support day-to-day portfolio management and efficient payment processing.
- Identify and progress opportunities for relocations, right-sizing, disposals and surplus space management.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues across Property, Finance and Operations to support consistent and effective estate management practices.
About you
- MRICS qualified, ideally with 2 years' post-qualification experience
- Proven track record in estate or property management, with experience negotiating lease renewals, rent reviews etc.
- Strong understanding of the Landlord & Tenant Act 1954 and wider commercial property legislation
- Commercially astute with excellent negotiation, communication and stakeholder management skills
- Confident managing a large, varied property portfolio independently, using sound judgement to resolve complex issues
- Strong communication skills with the ability to influence and collaborate effectively across teams and with external partners
- Full UK driving licence, with a willingness to travel and occasional overnight stays
Reward & benefits
- A fair and competitive salary evaluated against market data, annual discretionary bonus scheme, pension, life assurance, 25 days annual leave plus bank holidays and enhanced family leave.
- Commitment and dedication to your ongoing personal and professional development. We help you to own and grow your potential so you can be at your best in your current role and to support your future career aspirations.
- We offer hybrid working with a blend of working in our Support Centre and from home.
- You will have access to a wealth of employee discounts across the Halfords suite of products and services.
- Wellbeing and inclusion are at the heart of our colleague experience. We offer resources and ongoing support to enhance your wellbeing at work and active Colleague Networks supporting inclusion initiatives across Halfords.
