The Future of Life Institute (FLI) is hiring a UK Policy Advocate to advise the UK government on its forthcoming AI bill. This experienced and connected policy professional will also make recommendations for how the UK can utilise its unique position on the global stage to limit risks from AGI. The UK Policy Advocate will report to our Head of European Policy and Research.FLI educates and engages lawmakers, key stakeholders, and the general public about transformative technologies and their implications. In doing so, it advises and advocates on the necessary steps to avoid catastrophic risks while bringing about positive futures for all.As UK Policy Advocate, you will:Build awareness among key stakeholders about the fundamentals of AI safety as well as the benefits of putting clear safeguards in place.Support the UK's domestic regulation of AIIdentify key groups and stakeholders involved in shaping the forthcoming AI bill and build trusting relationships with these groupsDevelop a political strategy to engage senior government stakeholdersFurther the role of the UK in shaping global governance of AIIdentify key stakeholders with international-facing roles at UK AISI, FCDO or other relevant government departmentsLiaise with these contacts to advance global limits on dangerous AI development and co-shape the conditions for meaningful multilateral negotiationsRequired Qualifications:Eligibility to work in the UK, either based in London (preference) or able to travel to London regularly.Experience in UK politics/policy or understanding of how policies are passed in the UK government.Skills and qualities required:Sharp strategic planner, who can anticipate the likely risks and outcomes of multi-stage projects.Strong autonomy, pro-activity, and work ethic with ability to work independently on solo projects over extended periodsExcellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability communicate complex information to non-expert audiencesStrong interpersonal skills and ability to build trusting partnershipsPreferred qualifications, skills and qualities:An existing network within at least one major UK political party, UK AISI, FCDO and/or DSIT.Understanding of the technical capabilities and limitations of AI systemsApplication Deadline: Friday 7th November 2025.Start Date: We'd like the chosen candidate to start as soon as possible after accepting an offer.Application Process: Apply by uploading your resume, alongside a short answer to the following question(s):In 300 words or less, please outline the opportunities you see for concrete AI regulation in the UK within the next two years.Please apply via our website.
