Chief Product Officer

At MOTORS, we like to say that we know MOTORS
Millions of people come to us every month to find their next car, because we keep the car search process simple. We have hundreds of thousands of used cars listed for sale by dealers nationwide, and guides, advice, tips and reviews to help buyers find the right one. We don't just help consumers, though.
For our dealer partners, we offer a unique advertising ecosystem that allows them to get their cars seen by buyers across some of the UK's biggest car search sites: MOTORS, Cazoo, eBay, Gumtree and Parkers.
In 2024 we acquired Cazoo, one of the UK's most recognised automotive brands, marking the start of an exciting new chapter. We're now building on Cazoo's strong brand recognition to create the next-generation car search experience—one that's simpler, smarter, and more transparent.
We're excited about what's ahead, and we're looking for ambitious, adaptable team members who thrive in a fast-moving, evolving business.
Contract Type: Permanent
Location: Hybrid (Richmond SW London)
The opportunity
This is a rare chance to shape the product strategy for a trusted brand with real market-disruption potential, with a team who want to make it happen.
As Chief Product Officer, you'll define and deliver the product vision for our B2B2C marketplace, scaling adoption, engagement, and monetisation.
You'll report to the CEO, sit on the Leadership Team, and present regularly to the Board.
This will be a hands-on role initially, evolving into a strategic, visionary position as the product function matures.
You'll be working with a small product team of less than 20 individuals, defining both the structure and the scaling plan. The company is stable and in growth mode, giving you the chance to make a real impact.
Why this role exists: A message from Barry Judge, CEO
The automotive classifieds market has become stagnant. Prices keep rising, innovation has slowed, and the consumer experience hasn't evolved in over a decade. Dealers are eager for alternatives, and consumers deserve better.
We acquired Cazoo in 2024 for one reason: brand. Cazoo spent £100M+ building 60% consumer awareness and genuine trust. That brand equity is irreplaceable. But we didn't buy it to repeat old mistakes. We rebuilt from scratch: new tech stack, new business model, new approach.
Since our relaunch in May 2025, we've seen early traction. Now we need a Chief Product Officer to turn momentum into sustainable competitive advantage. Not through flashy features, but by delivering products that outperform entrenched incumbents, leveraging AI, personalisation, and data-driven insights to create real value for dealers and consumers.
If you've disrupted stagnant markets, built high-performing product teams, and can turn brand momentum into market dominance, this is the most interesting product role in UK automotive.
What you'll do
- Set and communicate an ambitious product vision and strategy that drives growth, engagement, and market impact.
- Build, scale, and lead a high-performing product team capable of delivering end-to-end product excellence.
- Champion AI-driven personalisation and data-led innovation to transform dealer and consumer experiences.
- Align Product, Tech, Commercial, and Marketing functions to break silos and drive collaboration.
- Engage with the Board and C-Suite, influencing strategy, priorities, and investment decisions.
- Deliver tangible marketplace impact, turning product execution into measurable competitive advantage.
- Scale marketplace impact, applying your expertise in B2B2C platforms to deliver value for both customers and dealers.
- Lead cultural change by embodying and embedding our fearless, dynamic culture, motivating teams and role modelling high performance.
What you'll bring
- Senior product leadership experience (CPO/VP Product) in a marketplace (B2B2C) environment.
- Proven track record of end-to-end product ownership: vision, strategy, launch, and measurable impact.
- Expertise in AI, personalisation, and data-driven product design.
- Exceptional storytelling, communication, and Board-level influence.
- Experience building and scaling high-performing, accountable teams.
- Comfort operating in a fast-paced, ambiguous scale-up environment, balancing hands-on execution with strategic vision.
- A Fearless, dynamic leadership style that drives accountability, innovation, and results.
Culture & mindset
We've defined our culture goals, and this is where we're moving to.
- Pace over perfection
- We learn by building and testing. We move quickly to validate ideas rather than over-planning.
- Fearless
– We take smart risks, fail fast, and approach challenges with courage. - Dynamic
– Agility matters; we adapt and respond to change quickly. - Challengers
– We question the status quo, test new approaches, and aren't afraid to do things differently. - Customer-focused
– Dealers and consumers both need great experiences. Product decisions balance the needs of both sides of our marketplace. - Direct and constructive
– Feedback is vital. We give and receive it openly to drive better outcomes. - Collaborative
– We work together to innovate and achieve more than we could alone. - Resilient
– We bounce back from setbacks, stay focused, and keep moving forward. - Outcome-focused
– We care about results and impact, not hierarchy or process for its own sake. Roles are flexible based on what the business needs.
We reward bold ideas, pace, relentless customer focus, and leaders who can drive change at every level. You will set the standard for product culture, inspiring teams and embedding accountability across the business.
First-year impact (success measures)
- Product vision and roadmap clearly defined, communicated, and understood across the business.
- Product team restructured and operating at full capability.
- AI-driven personalization and hyper-targeted marketplace features launched.
- Tangible improvements in adoption, engagement, and monetization metrics.
- Product function recognised as a driver of competitive advantage and growth.
If you are ready to disrupt a market, build the product engine behind a trusted brand, and prove that execution beats hype, we want to hear from you
