The Data Engineer is responsible for designing, building, and maintaining robust data pipelines that empower business insights and decision-making.

They'll collaborate with wider teams and work closely with our data analyst to deploy scalable data models, manage data sources from cloud-based infrastructure, and ensure the integrity, quality, and accessibility of data across the organisation.

Roles and Responsibilities include:

  • Contribute to design, build, and maintenance of scalable data pipelines and ETL/ELT workflows alongside our Data analyst, from multiple sources including ecommerce platforms, CRM systems, logistics tools, and internal databases

  • Write and optimise SQL queries to transform and analyse large datasets, supporting both automated reporting and deep-dive investigations
  • Support the data analyst by ensuring timely, clean, and reliable access to core datasets – enabling them to focus on insights rather than firefighting data issues.
  • Implement data quality checks, monitoring and security best practices across platforms
  • Enable self-service analytics by helping define and document clear data models, naming conventions, and semantic layers
  • Transform raw data into clean, structured formats suitable for analysis and modelling in projects such as the Power BI report builds and ahead of the ERP migration project
  • Stay up to date with emerging technologies in data engineering, AI, and cloud computing
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to team members on data and AI solutions
  • Contribute to data governance efforts, including access control, GDPR compliance, and data lifecycle management.

They should keep themselves up to date with Technical developments in order to suggest best practices that can be implemented. They should report back to the Head of Technical Operations with a quarterly report on improvements and general news in this area, as well as the company's readiness to adopt these practices and suggestions.

  • They must collaborate with the Project Coordinator to develop detailed project plans and execute projects on time, in scope, and budget that support operational and administrative teams.
  • They should have strong critical thinking skills enabling them to break down complex business problems into solvable technical components. This includes identifying the real problem behind a vague request, asking the right questions, and determining whether a data or AI solution is the right approach.
  • They must ensure that the underlying data is accurate, accessible, and optimised for themselves and the Data Analyst to build reports and dashboards from.
  • They must have the ability to automate data workflows and troubleshoot data integrity issues.
