OCU are looking for a Setting out Engineer to work on Substation projects across sites in Swindon, Ruislip and Oxford.

As the Setting Out Engineer you will be responsible for ensuring accurate positioning and alignment of all civil and electrical works on substation construction sites. This includes interpreting technical drawings, using surveying instruments, and collaborating with site teams to ensure construction is executed to design specifications. The role also involves maintaining safety standards, quality assurance, and supporting the delivery of the project on time and within budget. You will also be responsible for ensuring all setting out activities are conducted in accordance with site safety rules.

Other responsibilities will include:

  • Using surveying instruments (e.g., total stations, GPS) to set out works accurately.
  • Coordinate with civil and electrical teams to ensure alignment with design specifications.
  • Maintain accurate records of site measurements and as-built data.
  • Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations.
  • Support quality assurance processes and inspections.
  • Assist in resolving technical issues and discrepancies on-site.
  • Liaise with subcontractors, suppliers, and project managers.
  • Participate in daily briefings and toolbox talks.
  • Report and record any near misses or incidents.
  • Ensure all equipment is calibrated and used safely.
  • Comply with site PPE requirements and promote a safety-first culture.

To be successful in the role of Setting Out Engineer, you will need:

  • CSCS Card – Engineering or Technical Discipline.
  • SMSTS or SSSTS (desirable).
  • First Aid at Work (desirable).
  • Manual Handling and Working at Height Awareness.
  • Temporary Works Awareness.
  • CAT & Genny Training.
  • HNC/HND or equivalent in Civil or Electrical Engineering.
  • Proficient in using surveying equipment and software.
  • Experience in substation or HV infrastructure projects.
