Production and Material Scheduler

Vita Materials are a manufacturing company based in Dunmurry that produce a range of foam products.

We are seeking to recruit a Production and material scheduler to work alongside our Operations Team to ensure that customer orders are planned and scheduled efficiently through the factory.

Purpose of the role

The primary responsibility of the role is to plan and schedule the resources needed to manufacture and deliver orders on time and in full. Specifically this would include

• Raw materials – ensuring core materials are always available and in stock and for non core materials that they are available as required for specific orders

• Production labour – scheduling the available production labour hours to orders

• CNC machine time – scheduling the available CNC hours to orders

The role will necessitate working closely with the production manager and customer service team.

Key activities

Material planning

• For core materials that are used on multiple jobs, we plan and order material against historic usage as customer lead times are generally about the same as supplier lead times. Every Monday, based on closing stock Friday orders will be placed with four primary suppliers of core materials

• For non- Core materials there is a weekly process to check stock levels and place orders as needed

• There are a small number of customer specific materials where supplier orders would be placed as a customer order is received.

• Typically we would place around 10 orders in a week

The process for material planning is relatively well established and controlled.

Production labour and CNC machine time scheduling

Typically, most products require a combination of CNC machine cutting then an amount of manual cutting / assembly time and then packing/kitting of the final order. Customer lead times are usually one week for upholstery products, two weeks for industrial products and three weeks for complex acoustic products.

Each week on Thursday a detailed plan for the following week will be prepared identifying what jobs will be going through which CNC machines and when. There are five main CNC machines. In conjunction with this there will be a production labour plan that shows who will be working on what jobs and when. This plan will involve significant interaction with the site production manager and team leads.

Order flow through the factory

Reporting to the role is the production administrator who is responsible for ensuring that the detailed manufacturing instructions for each order are given to the correct team leads / machine operators.

To aid communicate and order flow through the factory, the scheduling manager will be required to attend the daily meeting with customer service and the production manager. This meeting goes through any orders received in the previous 24 hours, any urgent customer requests eg for expedite and any " must go" orders for the next day.

Process improvement

All of the processes and procedures that are currently used to plan and schedule orders are capable of being improved and a significant part of the role will involve developing and improving what is currently done.

Measures of success

The primary measure of success is that customer orders are delivered on time and in full. Clearly, there are a number of other roles within the business that impact this objective including the production manager, CAD design manager, customer service and finance so this is a shared responsibility.

The secondary measures of success relate to each of the resource areas

• Materials : Available to production to match manufacturing schedule

• Production labour : Weekly production schedule generated and agreed with the production manager

• Machine time schedule : weekly production schedule generated and agreed with the production manager.
