Operations Director - South West Midlands - Manufacturing - Metals - Transformation.

Directorbank is recruiting for a world leader in the invention, production, and supply of high-performance alloys used for the difficult jobs in engineering. These alloys are highly engineered to offer a superior combination of heat resistance, high-temperature corrosion resistance, toughness, and strength and are used in the world's most technically demanding industries and applications.

The Role

  • Lead all manufacturing operations across the business.
  • Build and develop operations organization and drive integration of the functions to deliver performance objectives.
  • Drive Continuous improvement of processes and procedures to support strategic direction of the business.
  • Assume full accountability for business performance and implement functional initiatives / Strategies for improvement in safety, quality, cost, delivery and employee relations.
  • As a leader, drive the tone and culture for the business with a clear passion to win at all levels and collective ambition to become a world class operation.
  • A clear successor role to the GM, the incumbent is positioned as second in command to the GM, assuming full responsibility and accountability in their absence.

Responsibilities

  • Ensures the safe working operation of all employees and processes.
  • To manage the day-to-day operation of the plant to meet safety, quality, delivery performance, inventory, productivity, production, shipment and cost budget targets.
  • To implement a continuous improvement process that drives improvement in safety, product yield, cost of non-conformance, labour productivity, cycle time reduction and cost reduction.
  • To ensure that the Metal Inventory is managed by effective resource, scheduling, close monitoring and good revert management.
  • Assess the overall needs for engineering maintenance and agree with the Engineering Director action to be taken to maintain a safe, and continued operation of the plant.
  • To plan and evaluate future capital needs and requisitions through market and technical analysis for justification.
  • To ensure that the employees are well motivated and rewarded through effective training, competitive evaluation of wages/salaries and incentives.
  • To ensure that correct and proper financial management is adhered to via robust quality accounting controls and procedures for measurement of attainment of committed financial targets. Ensures the financial management processes comply with SOX controls and procedures.
  • To ensure that the manufacturing capability is cost effective and able to support the needs of the business' markets.
  • Identifies from the production plans developed by the Planning Director, the resources needed to meet present and foreseeable production demands.
  • Drive a quality-first, zero-defects mentality and culture.
  • Establish all requirements and implement necessary changes to constantly improve the On-Time-In-Full (OTIF) performance.

Qualifications

  • BSc (Hons) or higher within a relevant subject (e.g. Engineering, Metallurgy, Material Science, etc.).
  • Ideally, proven, demonstrated experience in management role within large and complex manufacturing environment.
  • Prior experience directly managing significant numbers of people is required.
