About Us
The Application Services team at St Mary's University delivers a wide range of essential services through a comprehensive suite of software applications. These applications support our students, as well as academic and professional services staff, in achieving excellence across learning, research, and operations.
The teams remit includes the design, development and support (second and third-line applications support) of data integration solutions and application software across the institution.
This role is an opportunity for a proactive, technically skilled analyst/developer to join our team to contribute meaningfully to key university services while gaining exposure to modern technologies and practices.
About the Role
This role involves designing and maintaining APIs, supporting and integrating multiple commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) applications, and helping evolve our integration architecture as we shift towards cloud-native and event-driven solutions.
The role would suit an experienced analyst/developer with a solid foundation in software development and programming, who demonstrates initiative and the ability to quickly grasp how existing systems and solutions function by effectively navigating available documentation.
Key aspects of the role include:
- Web API & data integration design, development and maintenance
- Providing second- and third-line support, troubleshooting issues and collaborating with internal stakeholders and external vendors
- Contributing to business system upgrades and system improvements
- Supporting major projects, such as transitioning from point-to-point integrations to an Enterprise Service Bus (ESB) architecture
- Engaging in the adoption of cloud-native solutions and DevOps practices
We support hybrid working, with up to three days a week remote and a minimum of two days a week on-site.
About You
We are looking for a collaborative and driven individual who has significant web and API development skills.
You must be comfortable working in an agile environment (ideally using Jira for work management, and Confluence for documentation) and have experience or interest in DevOps, Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC), and cloud-native development.
You must have good communication and stakeholder engagement skills, and be able to understand existing systems and documentation.
Any experience with React and/or SQL Server DBA responsibilities would be a distinct advantage.
Overview
As the University builds on its proud heritage, we are looking for exceptional people to help shape our future. We provide a high-quality professional environment, inspired by our distinctive ethos and Catholic mission and values. Our values of excellence, generosity of spirit, inclusiveness and respect inspire us to create an academic community in which everybody is welcomed and which puts the student at the centre of all our endeavours.
