Job Title: Risk and Compliance Professional

Salary: £55,500 - £83,000 (depending on experience)

Location: Wimborne

Caterpillar Marine Power UK is part of Caterpillar Oil, Gas and Marine Division. The company designs, tests and manufactures and exports 0.5 to C7.1L Cat and Perkins marine engines and gensets. Caterpillar is a Fortune 100 company.

Job Summary

Ensure compliance with the enterprise and business division's ethical standards and examines any non-compliance issues, including the evaluation and examination of the adequacy of internal controls. Monitors and evaluates import/export operations; ensures compliance to applicable global trade laws.

Additional Info:

  • Travel – approximately 5% internationally
  • There is a requirement of 5 days in the office per week when not travelling

What You Will Do

  • Designing and implementing daily procedures and reviewing/assessing activities against internal control standards.
  • Directing and participating in the risk and compliance education of the organization, ensuring ongoing and follow up education including regulations, policies, procedures and trends.
  • Developing, initiating and revising policies and procedures for the general operation of the business unit's compliance program and its related activities.
  • Identifying potential risk and compliance vulnerabilities; developing corresponding corrective action plans for resolution of these issues and providing guidance for use in future situations.
  • Interacts with business customers to answer questions and solve problems; advises on global trade related issues.
  • Monitors global trade regulations and advises the business on the impact of changes.

What You Have:

Risk Management: Knowledge of processes, tools and techniques for assessing and controlling an organization's exposure to risks of various kinds; ability to apply knowledge of risk management appropriately to diverse situations.

Level Extensive Experience:

  • Debates the pros and cons of various risk management models.
  • Implements function-wide risk management processes and tools.
  • Designs cross-functional risk management processes, tools, and audit mechanisms.
  • Measures key benefits and drawbacks for specific risk management practices.
  • Relates risk assessment models and analysis tools and processes to own business.
  • Establishes key business-specific risk management benchmarks.

Analytical Thinking: Knowledge of techniques and tools that promote effective analysis; ability to determine the root cause of organizational problems and create alternative solutions that resolve these problems.

Level Working Knowledge:

  • Approaches a situation or problem by defining the problem or issue and determining its significance.
  • Makes a systematic comparison of two or more alternative solutions.
  • Uses flow charts, Pareto charts, fish diagrams, etc. to disclose meaningful data patterns.
  • Identifies the major forces, events and people impacting and impacted by the situation at hand.
  • Uses logic and intuition to make inferences about the meaning of the data and arrive at conclusions.

Audit and Compliance Function: Knowledge of major responsibilities and tasks of Audit and Compliance (A&C) function; ability to manage the operation of A&C function in various business environment.

Level Working Knowledge:

  • Summarizes the mission, vision and objectives of the A&C function.
  • Works with the major units and sub-functions of the A&C organization.
  • Implements the basic A&C technology used within the organization.
  • Participates in meetings regarding relevant regulatory considerations and agencies.
  • Explains the major A&C programs, initiatives and issues currently being addressed.

International Trade: Knowledge of the markets, issues, regulations, practices and operations of international trade; ability to apply this knowledge appropriately in diverse situations.

Level Extensive Experience:

  • Coaches others on all major operational processes and functions of international trade.
  • Resolves complex problems with international trade operations and related issues.
  • Consults on key aspects and functions of international trade, e.g. international marketing.
  • Provides insight into risk management in international trade.
  • Directs the organization's international trade shows or marketing campaigns.
  • Coordinates with management to resolve international trade regulation compliance issues.

Standard Operating Procedures: Knowledge of established standard operating procedures (SOP); ability to design, implement and evaluate standard operating procedures affecting daily and strategic business operations to increase operational efficiency.

Level Extensive Experience:

  • Designs a standard operating procedure, detailing steps and activities, within a department; develops procedures, processes, and

controls to implement and execute policy requirements.

  • Optimizes complex SOPs according to changes in organizational procedures.
  • Monitors the relationship between SOPs and performance improvement (e.g. quality improvement).
  • Evaluates the benefits and drawbacks of industry-specific SOPs.
  • Integrates best practices into the design, implementation and evaluation of organizational SOPs.
  • Evaluates the causes behind deviations from and modifications to existing SOPs.
