We are currently recruiting for a qualified and motivated Engineering Chargehand to join our team at Hemel Hempstead. This is a key leadership role within the engineering department, responsible for maintaining fleet reliability and supporting the depot's day-to-day operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and support a team of engineers and fitters to ensure all maintenance and repair tasks are completed safely and efficiently

  • Carry out diagnostics, inspections, and repairs on PCV (Passenger Carrying Vehicle) fleet vehicles

  • Allocate workloads and monitor performance to meet service and safety standards

  • Ensure compliance with DVSA standards and health & safety regulations

  • Maintain accurate maintenance records and input into the depot's engineering systems

  • Support the Engineering Manager with team development, including training apprentices and mentoring staff

What We're Looking For

  • NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in Vehicle Maintenance and Repair

  • Proven experience in a similar supervisory or lead technician role

  • In-depth knowledge of PCV or HGV mechanical systems

  • Good communication and team leadership skills

  • Flexible approach to working hours, including weekends and early/late shifts

  • PCV licence is desirable but not essential

  • Overtime paid at £39.00 per hour (time and a half)

  • Weekly hours based on a 5/7 day rota
