Pay Rate: £13.50–£14.00 per hour

Reports to: Soft Services Manager

Working Relationships: Head of FM / Facilities Manager

Budget Responsibility: None

Working Hours: Monday–Friday, 08:00–17:00

Contract Type: Temporary, 18 months (covering a major project)

Job Purpose

The Security Contractor Escort Officer supports the contractor control process by escorting and supervising contractors and visitors across the prison estate managed by the organisation. Working as part of the Total Facilities Management (TFM) administration team, the postholder ensures all contractor movements are secure, compliant, and completed in a timely manner while upholding high standards of communication, safety, and operational efficiency.

Key Responsibilities

  • Escort contractors and visitors safely and effectively across designated areas of the prison estate, following all organisational procedures.
  • Maintain health and safety standards during contractor/visitor movements and ensure compliance with relevant rules.
  • Assist in developing contractor control routines, processes, risk assessments, and recordkeeping.
  • Work alongside craft, semi-skilled, and unskilled maintenance staff when joint tasks are required.
  • Maintain strong security awareness, including key control and tool control protocols.
  • Perform routine inspections of contractor works to ensure adherence to safety guidance and operational procedures.
  • Promote effective communication and support environmental, quality, health & safety, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Clearance & Vetting Requirements

  • Subject to G4S clearance prior to starting.
  • Must successfully complete a 10-year G4S Screening and Vetting process.
  • Must obtain 10-year NOMS (National Offender Management Service) clearance.
  • Must have a full 10-year background check, including:
  • Police background checks
  • Additional checks for foreign nationals, covering all countries lived in during the past 10 years

Skills & Experience

Essential

  • Must hold a valid Door Supervisor SIA Licence
  • Experience working within a maintenance or similar operational environment
  • Ability to follow policies and procedures accurately
  • Experience in a health & safety–focused environment, with understanding of contractor control

Desirable

  • BSC Level 1 Health & Safety
  • Full, clean driving licence
  • Experience in building or facilities maintenance
