Role / Department Overview:
Reporting to the Head of Financial Reporting in Guernsey, the Financial Reporting team is responsible for preparing annual statutory accounts and interim financial reports for Northern Trust's fiduciary and fund client base. These reports are produced in accordance with UK GAAP, IFRS, or other relevant accounting standards and include managing the audit process for a diverse range of entities—such as companies, trusts, and limited partnerships—registered across multiple jurisdictions.
This role will primarily focus on the fiduciary client portfolio, which comprises two key segments:
Asset Owners – A multi-billion-dollar portfolio of pension trusts, endowments, and corporate entities representing Northern Trust's strategic institutional clients. Global Family Office – High-net-worth individuals and family office clients with complex, bespoke requirements.
The key responsibilities of the role include:
- Serve as the Subject Matter Expert for financial reporting within the Guernsey fiduciary business, providing hands-on leadership and resolving complex, non-routine client reporting issues.
- Lead and manage a team of four Guernsey-based professionals, ensuring high performance and engagement.
- Review financial statements and Guernsey tax returns prepared by the team to ensure accuracy and compliance.
- Present financial statements at board and client meetings, including occasional international travel (e.g., annual visit to Saudi Arabia, up to 5 days).
- Act as the primary liaison for the Head of Guernsey Fiduciary Administration, including reporting at board-level management committee meetings.
- Oversee internal and external audit processes, from addressing audit queries to engaging with audit partners for sign-off.
- Ensure exceptional client service delivery across all fiduciary reporting activities.
- Manage the production, accuracy, and timely delivery of annual and periodic financial statements, as well as tax reporting obligations.
- Oversee bookkeeping and bank reconciliation processes for fiduciary entities.
- Coordinate accounting workflows to ensure quality and timeliness, adhering to internal policies and procedures.
- Act as system owner for the fiduciary accounting platform (Viewpoint), including upgrades, user acceptance testing (UAT), and system enhancements to improve efficiency and reliability.
- Stay informed on industry trends, regulatory developments, and best practices.
- Support business development initiatives through presentations, RFP responses, and client pitches.
- Fulfil people management responsibilities, including performance reviews, training, coaching, recruitment, onboarding, and probationary assessments. Collaborate with cross-jurisdictional teams (e.g., Manila-based shared resources).
- Identify and implement opportunities to enhance productivity, quality, and operational efficiency within the department.
Skills & Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will possess:
- A recognized accounting qualification (e.g., ACCA or equivalent).
- In-depth knowledge of fiduciary entity administration and/or offshore fund administration.
- Proven supervisory experience within company/fund administration, asset management, securities operations, or audit.
- Demonstrated expertise in preparing and reviewing financial statements, including primary statements, notes, and board-level reporting.
- Working knowledge of Guernsey's regulatory framework for fiduciary services.
- Strong presentation skills and experience representing the business to clients.
- Ability to identify and implement practical solutions to complex problems, collaborating effectively across teams.
