Senior Communications Officer

About the role
Temporary Full-time opportunity up to 04 January 2027.
We're looking for an experienced Senior Communications Officer to provide timely and expert strategic communications advice to internal and external stakeholders across several major and significant Council projects and programs of work. The role works collaboratively across internal and external teams to develop and implement best practice communications resources and tactics that contribute to the objectives and outcomes of the program or project of work. Essential criteria
- Tertiary qualification in Communications or a related discipline
- Demonstrated experience developing, implementing and evaluating an effective communications process and comprehensive communications plan to support the rollout and delivery of a major program and/or project
- Demonstrated experience developing and implementing a comprehensive stakeholder engagement and risk management plan to support the rollout and delivery of a program and/or project
- Demonstrated experience producing content to suit a range of formats and a diverse audience, including online, social and print delivery
- Ability to demonstrate the use of emerging technologies and their implementation in communication outcomes
- Demonstrated experience in managing competing priorities, including the ability to negotiate with internal and/or external stakeholders to ensure project KPI's, milestone opportunities and deadlines are met
Desirable criteria
- Previous experience working in Local Government
- Experience working in the media or in a similar role
- Current Class C driver's licence
Commencing salary: $116,235 per annum, plus 12% Superannuation.
You will be required to undertake employment checks, which may include a Criminal History Check, Qualification Check, Working with Children Check, Medical Declaration and/or a Functional Test, as relevant to the position for which you have applied. Where a Criminal History Check is required and has returned a result that indicates disclosable court outcomes, you will be required to provide a copy of the report to Penrith City Council, for review, in order to progress through the recruitment process.
