The Role
We're seeking talented graduates to join our Defence Safety team in Basingstoke. You'll work alongside experienced engineers and contribute to the design and delivery of defence equipment across land sea and air. This ranges from cutting edge unmanned air systems to high risk airborne equipment and diving projects that respond to the challenges of the evolving safety and security world we find ourselves in. You'll be joining a collaborative team of defence safety professionals within a high-performing consultancy. With decades of experience and a reputation for technical excellence, our business spans: Independent Safety Audit, Safety Management Systems, Hazard Analysis, Hazard Log construction / maintenance, Safety Case and Safety Case Report development.
Your Impact In This Position
As a Graduate Defence Safety Consultant, you'll play a key role in supporting the technical delivery of projects. You'll gain hands-on experience across the full project lifecycle—from concept design to in-service operations.
You'll collaborate across disciplines, attend client meetings and site visits, and contribute to the production of safety arguments. With mentorship from senior engineers and access to a structured development programme, you'll build the skills, confidence, and experience needed to progress toward chartership and beyond.
MANDATORY Qualification Requirements
Have, or be on course for achieving, a relevant degree in one of the following subjects:
- Physics, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical/ Electronic Engineering, Aeronautical / Aerospace Engineering.

Programme Highlights
- Central induction and ongoing support from your line manager and mentor.
- In-depth technical training in your core discipline, plus exposure to 15 technical and 8 interpersonal topics.
- Quarterly development reviews to track your progress.
- Opportunities to shadow senior colleagues and contribute to diverse projects.
Your Pathway:
If you wish to explore a different discipline at the end of the programme, we'll consider this based on your interests and business requirements.
Chartered Management Institute (CMI) Partnership
As part of the scheme, you'll have access to the CMI Foundation Chartered Manager pathway through flexible, online Bite Size programs. Choose from a range of topics—including Managing Change, Leading in a Digital Age, Conflict Resolution, Project Management, and Data-Driven Decision Making—to build your leadership and management skills.
Application and Selection Process
To apply for the Tetra Tech RPS 2026 Graduate Scheme, candidates must submit an up-to-date CV detailing their academic background, relevant experience, and motivation for joining the programme. All applications will be acknowledged upon receipt.
Following initial screening, shortlisted candidates will be invited to complete an online assessment designed to evaluate key competencies and problem-solving skills relevant to consultancy work. Those who progress beyond this stage will be invited to attend a final assessment, which will take the form of either an in-person interview or an assessment centre, depending on location and discipline.
