Job Summary
Our service has an exciting opportunity to join our team as a CYP-PT Systemic Family Practitioner. At Hillingdon MHST we work with young people with mild to moderate MH presentations in schools. The post holder will be responsible for delivering systemic interventions within an MHST in identified schools and colleges in the central areas of Hillingdon.

You will normally have a minimum of a second-class Bachelor's degree from a UK university or an overseas qualification of an equivalent standard in a relevant academic subject (e.g. Psychology, Education, Childhood development, Social Work etc) AND a registerable professional qualification (e.g. as a counselling/clinical/educational psychologist, social worker, counsellor ( three year minimum training, full BACP accredited membership (MBACP Accred) and experience inthe public or voluntary sector), mental health nurse, occupational therapist, art / music therapist. Applications MAY be considered from those with relevant first degree who do not have a registerable professional training if they have at least 3 years experience in a CAMHS or equivalent setting. You will be expected to work in schools closely with school staff to support CYP, their families and staff to foster a whole school approach to mental well-being. This role requires flexibility and adaptability and above all, a passion for working with children and young people with mental health difficulties within an educational context.

Main duties of the job

CYP-PT Systemic Family Pracitioners will be responsible for delivering interventions within Mental Health Support Teams (MHSTs) in schools and colleges, whilst receiving clinical supervision and be expected to work in schools closely with school staff to support CYP, their families and staff to foster a whole school approach to mental well-being.

The practitioner will play a key role in

  • Forming strong working relations with a variety of stakeholders
  • Providing consultations to education colleagues and support education setting to embed a whole school approach to wellbeing
  • Developing and delivering systemic evidence-based individual and group time limited interventions to young people within education settings
  • Evidencing the outcomes of the MHST service
  • Providing support to Education and Mental Health practitioners

About Us
The successful candidate would be working within Hillingdon MHST (Mental Health Support Team).

The MHST works with Young people with mild to moderate mental health presentations attending school/education setting in the Hillingdon area.

The purpose of the team is to

  • Provide evidence-based interventions for mild to moderate mental health issues.
  • Support the senior mental health lead in each education setting to introduce or develop their whole school or college approach.
  • Give timely advice to school and college staff, and liaising with external specialist services, to help children and young people to get the right support and stay in education.

Young people have access to the MHST via one phone number. School staff and other potential referrers are able to contact a team of clinical staff to discuss potential referrals.

The MHST will manage referrals, deal with queries, undertake clinical telephone triage and face to face assessment, give advice and signpost young people where appropriate.

Education and Qualifications

  • Extensive experience of delivering evidenced-based CBT interventions for mild to moderate mental health issues such as anxiety, low mood and behavioural problems to CYP both individually and in groups
  • Experience either working as a member of a multi-disciplinary team or multi-agency working.
  • Knowledge and experience in mental health promotion work.
  • Knowledge of legislation in relation to children and adolescents and safeguarding procedures and policies
  • Good understanding of the range of child and adolescent mental health services
