You will work as a member of the Specialist Advice team within our Environment Service, using your experience to protect, enhance and promote the Council's assets for the benefit of residents and visitors and work within our passionate, knowledgeable, and experienced team as we deliver projects and provide professional advice to Environment Service colleagues, Planning and other Council services, Councillors and members of the public.
This is an exciting opportunity for a Landscape Officer to support the planning, design, development and delivery of an efficient green infrastructure and Landscape programme of work, providing technical support and advice to Norfolk County Council (NCC).
This post will provide day-to-day delivery of Landscape advice, support and delivery of projects to ensure that the natural environment of Norfolk is safeguarded and enhanced through the planning system, to meet legal obligations and recognising the benefits to the Norfolk economy that this brings. Supporting the work of Environment Service specialists as required, this post will provide detailed advice on individual planning applications and strategies and take direct accountability for meeting objectives on time.
We are looking for an experienced, self-motivated professional aspiring to play a central role in the sustainable development of Norfolk's Green Infrastructure. The role requires knowledge and experience of landscape designs and masterplans, as well as working knowledge of planning documents and landscape assessments. You will use this to ensure that any work undertaken can help deliver a Biodiversity Net Gain and support the Local Nature Recovery Strategy.
Representing the Environment Service at meetings, public consultation and other events, the postholder will be required to maintain strong working relationships across project partners and external stakeholders, as well as ensuring projects are delivered on time and to schedule.
Experience of delivering quality work to deadlines is essential, as is a flexible approach to collaborative working with a calm and positive approach to problem-solving. You will have a relevant degree or experience and possess a thorough understanding of the current planning system and environmental legislation. The post requires strong influencing skills and a focussed delivery of our priorities.
You Will
- Be collaborating with colleagues across NCC including Arboriculture, Ecology, Historic Environment, PRoW, Development Management and Spatial Planning and Highways, to ensure that new developments and infrastructure schemes have proper regard to maintaining and enhancing the landscape of Norfolk
- Respond to reports and planning applications, visit proposed development sites, and liaise with colleagues within NCC and other Local Authorities
- Support the championing of the landscapes of Norfolk as important parts of Norfolk's growth and health and well-being
- Respond to consultations by the NCC Development Management and Spatial Planning teams, to ensure that potential harm to landscape features is avoided or minimised, and that proposals are accompanied by appropriate landscape schemes as well as aftercare and maintenance programmes
- Play a key role in supporting the delivery of landscape conservation projects in conjunction with NCC colleagues and external partner organisations.
- Support the development of GI at a landscape-scale, including delivery of the Local Nature Recovery Strategy
You Will Need
- A degree or equivalent, or relevant experience in landscape architecture or a related environmental discipline
- A membership with a professional body or be willing to work towards this
- Up to date knowledge of Landscape and Visual Impact Assessment
- Understanding of landscape character assessment
- The ability to interpret submitted assessments and plans
- A willingness to learn as we will support you to take on work of increasing complexity for example Nationally Significant Infrastructure Project
