Manchester, New Hampshire, United Kingdom Forsyth Barnes Full time

Role: Network Architect

Location: Manchester or London

Contract Type: Fixed Term 12 Months

Salary: £75k - £95k dependent on experience

About the Role

We're seeking an experienced Network Architect to lead the design and evolution of a complex enterprise network supporting a national, mission-critical digital infrastructure.

You'll work at the intersection of Enterprise IT and Architecture, shaping the future-state network that enables secure connectivity across multiple providers, platforms, and environments. This role involves assessing the current landscape, identifying vulnerabilities, defining separation and integration requirements, and designing a secure, scalable future network to support business transformation and regulatory objectives.

You'll play a key role in ensuring that our network and associated services are fit for the future, aligned with strategic enterprise goals, and ready for market readiness activities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work within Enterprise IT alongside the Enterprise Architect to assess the current network environment, including architecture, vulnerabilities, and separation needs.
  • Design and document the future-state enterprise network, ensuring security, scalability, and compliance with business and regulatory requirements.
  • Define integration strategies between core platforms (e.g. HR, Finance) and third-party providers.
  • Provide technical input into RFPs and procurement for network and IT services.
  • Identify and mitigate single points of failure and network vulnerabilities.
  • Support the alignment of network architecture with broader licence renewal and enterprise IT strategies.
  • Collaborate with Security, Finance, and HR functions to simplify system interconnections and ensure secure data flows.

What We're Looking For

We're looking for a strategic thinker with deep technical expertise and the ability to operate confidently in a fast-paced, change-driven environment. You should have:

Essential Experience:

  • Proven background in Enterprise and Network Architecture — across on-premise and cloud (Azure, AWS, hybrid) environments.
  • Strong understanding of architecture domains (network, security, application, data) and how they interconnect.
  • Experience in As-Is/To-Be network design, endpoint mapping, and integration design.
  • Working knowledge of Zero Trust principles and network risk assessment.
  • Proven ability to define technical requirements for RFPs and assess supplier capabilities.
  • Strong stakeholder management and communication skills — able to translate complex concepts into actionable designs and clear documentation.

Desirable:

  • Experience within
    large-scale or regulated environments
    (utilities, telecoms, or critical infrastructure).
  • SAFe or ITIL certification.
  • Azure or AWS certification.
  • Experience with DevOps practices and agile delivery models.

What's in It for You

  • Opportunity to shape the network architecture behind one of the UK's most ambitious digital transformation programmes.
  • Work with leading experts across enterprise technology, security, and operations.
  • Be part of a high-impact team influencing technology strategy at national scale.
