Do you want to support the economy and education by "keeping the wheels running" around the county? By playing your part in helping keep buses on time and reducing congestion you'd enable 1,000s of people to get to work, school, appointments and leisure.
Roles in the Communities, Economy and Transport (CET) department offer enormous scope to make a positive impact on the quality of life for people and the environment of East Sussex. From operating waste facilities and registration offices, to maintaining roads and major infrastructure planning, the moment an East Sussex resident steps outside their front door, they are interacting with our work.
CET's Transport Hub provides vital connections into the public transport network across the county to help people go about their daily lives, from getting to the gym and the shops, to visiting family and friends. We transport thousands of children to school every day, we provide transport for some of the most vulnerable people in our area and we help people who don't have the opportunity to access public or private transport. Transport Hub services range from fleet management to transport of Adult Social Care customers, contracted bus and community services and home to school transport.
The post holder will work as part of the Bus Team within the Transport Hub which is responsible for the provision of a variety of transport services for internal and external clients. We help public transport services to change and adapt to infrastructure and demands, by doing things like supporting the monitoring of real-time passenger information at bus stops or re-routing services around roadworks. Ultimately, we see it as our job to "keep the wheels running" around the county.
The successful applicant should have:
- Attention to detail
- Communication skills, tact and diplomacy
- Be familiar with working with stakeholders
- An ability to manage priorities and deadlines
- An ability to learn and use a range of systems to obtain information
Interviews will be conducted in person at County Hall, Lewes, week commencing 15 December. Candidates invited to interview will be asked to complete a work-based task as part of the assessment process. Shortlisted candidates will be given more details nearer the time. Candidates who meet certain criteria are given priority when we shortlist. See our priority status page for details.
This role benefits from hybrid and flexible working and accessing training opportunities are encouraged. We offer a diverse range of benefits to help and support you during your employment. More information can be found on our benefits page. Vocational Training through Apprenticeships is now available to our staff, ranging from entry level to degree level qualifications. You can talk to the hiring manager and the apprenticeship team about what qualifications would be relevant to you and this job role, and if it is possible to support you in apprenticeship training.
For an informal discussion about this opportunity contact Clinton Jones, Principal Transport Officer at to request a MS teams call or phone call.
"East Sussex really support you and they try and grow you, not just as a worker, but as a person. They really take an interest in the person you are and where you want to go." Kim, Tourism and Cultural Project Coordinator-
