In order to achieve these objectives the Performance Development Engineer is primarily responsible for devising and running test programmes using simulation, test rigs, dynos or the track environment in order to quantify performance improvements.  He/she is responsible for planning, preparing and running the test, and for the subsequent data analysis and reporting of results and conclusions.

The Performance Development Engineer is responsible for the following areas of activity within his/her section of the business or department:

  • Generation and proposal of performance ideas via QF_022s (QSP_067)
  • Development engine build specification
  • Development test specification, preparation, execution, results analysis and reporting, further recommendations
  • Output and delivery
  • Quality of work, particularly in respect to test output
  • The health and safety of him/herself and others within the work environment
  • Technical development of products and processes
  • Fostering good and productive inter-departmental working relationships
  • Championing best practice

  • Experience of running engines on dynos

  • Ability to run engines at the track

  • Broad overall knowledge of engines and engine systems
  • Knowledge of engine test facilities
  • Knowledge of a particular area of performance development, e.g gas exchange, combustion, friction, boosting, ERS, calibration
