The Power House is a creative community hub dedicated to improving wellbeing and connection through arts and participation. We believe creativity brings people together and strengthens communities. Joining a small Board, the new Chair will lead the charity into its next exciting phase.

Your knowledge and experience will help us to nurture a new staff team, champion our position as a local lead in community engagement, and extend our role locally as a welcoming, creative Hub for everyone.

What are we looking for?

We're seeking people who care passionately about community wellbeing and creativity, and who can bring professional and/or lived experience in areas that include

  • Finance or accountancy (for the Treasurer role)
  • Fundraising and income generation
  • Marketing and communications
  • Human resources and organisational development
  • Legal, compliance, or charity governance (ideally with experience as a Chair).
  • Community development, youth work and social inclusion

Who We're Looking For

  • Has experience of leadership and management at board or senior management level, ideally in the voluntary, public, or creative sectors
  • Understands good governance and the legal responsibilities of charity trustees (or is willing to learn)
  • Has excellent communication, facilitation, and relationship-building skills
  • Is diplomatic, confident, and able to lead collaboratively with empathy and respect.
  • Shares our values of creativity, inclusion, and understands the importance of community wellbeing
  • Is experienced in personnel management
  • Ideally, lives locally and can represent The Power House within Poole and the region where required
  • Is collaborative, supportive and committed to the organisation's mission In addition to the Board we have a small group of advisors who provide pro-bono advice as and when required.

What will you be doing?

We're seeking a new Chair of the Board who can take The Power House through an exciting period of organisational growth, following an award in 2024 from the National Lottery Reaching Communities fund. The new appointee will support the Board and staff team in extending the reach and impact of our community and youth engagement programme across Hamworthy and Poole.

We're all about community wellbeing and enabling creativity - we have a Community Hub with an office and a Community Garden within minutes of the Hub; both spaces bring people together to create, to grow, and to develop. After 8 years of community consultation, the new Chair will join us during one of the most exciting phases of our journey to date.
