Principal Clinical/Counselling Psychologist B8A
2 weeks ago
We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic Clinical/Counselling Psychologist to join our supportive Beatson Psychology team. This is a dynamic regional service offering psychological interventions to adults with cancer and consultation to multidisciplinary colleagues. This post offers variety, with a combination of inpatient and outpatient working. You will gain many transferrable skills, including working across a broad age span, adapting interventions to suit the context and an understanding of how psychological needs change from the point of diagnosis, through survivorship or to end of life care.
We are looking for warm, flexible clinicians who are motivated to improve the care of people with cancer through innovation. This is an exciting time to work in cancer services in Scotland, with specific actions around 'mental health as part of basic care' outlined in the current Cancer Strategy for Scotland The psychologists within our service have a range of clinical interests, reflecting different therapeutic approaches e.g. CBT, ACT, IPT, CFT, EMDR. Hence there will be opportunities to expand your clinical skillset and to access supervision from experienced clinicians. There is an active Staff Wellbeing group within the hospital and we recognise the importance of self-care.
There will be opportunities to develop your clinical supervision skills where appropriate, as the service regularly hosts trainees from a range of programmes. You will be supported to maintain your professional development in line with service priorities. There will be scope for provision of teaching/training, with clinicians in the service regularly providing sessions on procedural anxiety/anticipatory nausea for nursing staff. The service is research active and there will therefore be opportunities for field supervision of doctoral trainees. Recent projects have explored the role of values in treatment refusal and staff experiences of caring for patients at end of life.
This post sits within the wider Acute Psychology department and thus there are opportunities for cross-working with colleagues in cardiac rehabilitation, stroke, renal transplant, chronic pain, cystic fibrosis, bone marrow transplant, gender, COPD, weight management, complex mesh, plastic surgery/burns, neuropsychology and occupational health psychological therapies. We also have good linkages with 3rd sector colleagues in relevant cancer charities and participate in the Scottish Psychologists Working in Oncology Group.
The Beatson West of Scotland Cancer Centre is a compact, friendly hospital – which allows for the development of close working relationships with multidisciplinary colleagues. The hospital is conveniently situated in the bustling West End of Glasgow, with excellent public transport links. Glasgow is the largest city in Scotland, with a thriving cultural scene. Glasgow also enjoys close proximity to many areas of natural beauty, with over 70 local parks and easy access to Loch Lomond & The Trossachs National Park.
Applications are welcomed from those currently working as Clinical/ Counselling Psychologists and from Trainee Clinical/Counselling Psychologists who are due to qualify soon and meet the essential criteria within the Person Specification and are eligible for HCPC registration. This post requires PVG scheme membership/Disclosure Scotland Check.
