Bicester, Oxfordshire, United Kingdom Evolito Ltd Full time £80,000 - £120,000 per year

Evolito's mission is to accelerate the adoption of electric propulsion in aerospace applications in support of a net-zero world. We will help to revolutionise personal mobility and transform our towns and cities with clean, noise-free air transportation.

Evolito develops and manufactures class-leading, lightweight, high-power, and high-torque-density electric propulsion systems for a range of aerospace markets, including EVTOL, Unmanned Aerial Vehicles and General Aviation.

As well as ultra-high performance, low-weight electric motors and controllers, Evolito specialises in high integrity, bespoke battery systems for the aerospace and defence markets. The team is scaling rapidly and has ambitious growth plans over the next twelve to eighteen months.

As part of our current high-growth phase, we are looking for a Lead Development Engineer to lead technical investigations and enhance product robustness as we progress toward airworthiness certification. This role involves analysing complex issues, developing methodologies and solutions across products and processes, and contributing throughout the entire product lifecycle, from design to manufacturing and to flight.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Lead and coach the Development Engineering Team to achieve deliverables
  • Identify, lead, and plan technical investigations to resolve complex engineering challenges and improve product robustness
  • Apply structured problem-solving techniques to conduct root cause analysis and define corrective actions for product and process issues
  • Support the development and validation of design solutions to meet airworthiness, certification, and system-level requirements
  • Collaborate across design, CAE, systems, manufacturing, test, and materials teams to identify opportunities and deliver integrated design solutions and specifications
  • Develop and implement methodologies for analysis, testing, measurement, and continuous improvement in design and manufacturing controls
  • Liaise with key internal and external stakeholders—including suppliers and customers—to resolve design, development, and manufacturing issues, balancing optimal solutions with necessary trade-offs.

Skills and experience required:

  • Degree (or equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline
  • Proven experience leading product development and technical investigations with a strong analytical approach
  • Solid background in engineering, with the ability to apply technical knowledge to real-world challenges
  • Good understanding of design practices, materials, mechanical properties, manufacturing controls, and processing, with previous experience in a relevant industry
  • Familiarity with structured problem-solving tools such as FMEA, 8D, and robust engineering methodologies
  • Strong communication skills; confident in engaging with customers and suppliers to clarify requirements and resolve issues
  • Willingness to travel as required, both domestically and internationally
  • Approachable, collaborative, and team-oriented
  • Valid UK driving licence and ability to travel (domestically and internationally).
