Job description

The post holders will play a key role in influencing and driving forward a variety of activities to support data protection, information management and information rights in DWP.

The role will be leading two strands of the DPO Team which are the Business Management and Central Freedom of Information (CFoI) Teams:

The main responsibilities will include but not limited to:

  • Building and maintaining strong relationships with stakeholders to ensure needs are identified.
  • Leading a team to achieve its team objectives.
  • Building a culture of continuous improvement
  • Providing expert advice and guidance to the business on data protection, information management and FoI.
  • Providing a Business Management function for the DPO Team
  • Acting as first point of contact with citizens, DWP employees and the ICO around data protection and FoI
  • Providing strategic direction to both Teams and cultivating an environment of continuous improvement.
Person specification
  • You have proven experience of leading and motivating teams of subject matter experts to be fully engaged in their work and dedicated to their role, ensuring they deliver to the highest professional and quality standards (Lead criteria).
  • You have proven experience of working in either a data protection, data privacy, information rights or information management role or a closely related and comparable profession, and have demonstrated the ability to identify, prioritise and resolve issues promptly and effectively in a practical manner
  • You have proven experience of building strong interpersonal relationships to achieve progress on shared objectives, but challenge assumptions while being willing to compromise if beneficial to progress.
  • You have proven experience of producing excellent communications, influencing people and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to assimilate and interpret information quickly, explain complex propositions simply and clearly and articulate persuasive arguments to colleagues at all levels.
  • You have proven experience of critical thinking by analysing and interpreting data from various sources to support decision making including ensuring decision making happens at the right level and encourage both innovative suggestions and challenge from others.
  • Have proven experience of prioritising a large and varied workload, take decisions under pressure on own initiative and meet challenging deadlines to ensure the delivery of quality outcomes that meet customer needs and expectations.

Interview:

Successful candidates will be invited to a face-to-face interview. Candidates will be assessed on Behaviours.

Candidates will be required to deliver a 5-minute technical presentation at interview. Details of the topic will be issued ahead of the interview. There will be no equipment available to connect to.
