Apprentice Fire & Security Engineer
Location: Peterborough & Surrounding Areas (travel across East Anglia)
Hours: Around 50 hours per week, including paid travel time – and company Van
Contract: Full-time, Apprenticeship
Start Your Fire & Security Career the Right Way
We're an established fire and security company working across East Anglia, with a focus on doing things properly, not cutting corners.
We're looking for an Apprentice Fire & Security Engineer to join our team and learn the trade by working closely with an experienced engineer out on the road every day. You'll be "on the tools" from day one, building towards a fully-fledged Fire & Security Engineer role like the one you've already seen (CCTV, access control, fire alarms, intruder alarms, emergency lighting, etc.).
If you like the idea of a hands-on, practical career, plenty of time out and about, and learning from someone who knows the job inside out, this could be a great fit.
What You'll Be Doing (Under Supervision)
This is a field-based role with lots of travel. You'll typically start and finish your day on the road, travelling to commercial and public-sector sites across Peterborough, Norwich and wider East Anglia.
Working alongside a qualified Fire & Security Engineer, you'll:
- Assist with installing CCTV, access control, fire alarm and intruder alarm systems
- Help with servicing emergency lighting and fire extinguishers
- Support with fault-finding and remedial works
- Learn how to use digital job tools and complete basic paperwork and compliance records
- Help with van stock, tools and materials so jobs run smoothly
- Communicate professionally with clients on site (with support to begin with)
You'll gradually take on more responsibility as your skills, knowledge and confidence grow.
Training & Development
You'll work towards becoming a fully skilled Fire & Security Engineer through a training provider, combining:
- On-the-job learning with a senior engineer
- Regular reviews to keep you progressing towards a full engineer role
The goal is clear: to turn you into a multi-skilled Fire & Security Engineer, capable of installations, servicing and fault-finding to a high standard.
What We're Looking For
You don't need industry experience – we'll teach you that – but we do need the right attitude.
Essential:
- Genuine interest in electrics, engineering, tech or hands-on problem solving
- Happy with early starts, long days and lots of travel (around 50 hours per week)
- Full UK driving licence (so you can drive to sites and pick up/drop off your mentor engineer)
- Comfortable working at height (steps/ladders) and using hand tools
- Good communication skills and a polite, professional manner with customers
- Reliable, punctual and willing to muck in with whatever needs doing
Nice to Have (but not required):
- Any basic electrical, engineering or construction experience
- GCSEs (or equivalent) in Maths, English and/or a science/technical subject
- Previous practical work experience (part-time work, Saturday job, etc.)
What We Offer
- Structured apprenticeship training with a clear route to becoming a fully qualified Fire & Security Engineer
- Paid, door-to-door travel time – from when you leave home to when you arrive back
- Real, on-the-job learning alongside an experienced Senior Engineer
- Modern digital job systems and organised office support (so you can focus on learning the trade)
- 28 days' paid holiday (including bank holidays)
- Workplace pension (subject to eligibility)
- Long-term career prospects in a growing business once you're qualified
Why This Is a Great Opportunity
This role is ideal if you:
- Want to earn while you learn in a technical trade with strong long-term demand
- Prefer being out on the road and on the tools, not stuck behind a desk
- Want proper training and standards – not a "make do and mend" environment
- Like the idea of progressing into a well-paid Fire & Security Engineer role once you're qualified and experienced
You'll be working with people who take pride in doing things to a high standard and who will invest time into training you properly.
How to Apply
If this sounds like the kind of apprenticeship you're looking for, we'd love to hear from you.
Apply with your CV (and a short note about why this role interests you), or get in touch for a confidential chat about the position.
Job Types: Full-time, Permanent, Apprenticeship
Pay: £26,000.00-£32,000.00 per year
Benefits:
- Company car
- Company pension
- Employee mentoring programme
- On-site parking
- Sick pay
Work Location: In person
