Yardman/Handyman

Overview

We are looking for a reliable, hardworking Yard Worker/Handyman to support the day-to-day upkeep of our warehouse yard, recycling areas, pallet handling, and general maintenance tasks. This role is essential in ensuring a safe, tidy, and well-maintained site, while providing hands-on support across the warehouse and facilities teams.

Key Responsibilities Yard & Grounds Maintenance

• Maintain overall yard cleanliness, ensuring the outdoor areas are clear, organised, and hazard-free.
• Sweep, pressure-wash, and tidy yard surfaces, walkways, and loading areas.
• Manage weed control, light gardening, and basic grounds upkeep as required.
• Clear rubbish, debris, and ensure designated waste zones are kept orderly.

Pallet Handling & Storage

• Sort, stack, move, and repair pallets as needed.
• Organise pallet storage to maintain safety and efficient stock flow.
• Load/unload pallets manually or using equipment (if trained and authorised).
• Prepare pallets for recycling, return, or disposal.

Waste & Recycling Management

• Oversee waste segregation and recycling processes across the warehouse and yard.
• Compact, bale, or stage recyclable materials for collection (where applicable).
• Ensure all waste areas are compliant with environmental and safety standards.
• Report issues with waste contractors or equipment promptly.

General Maintenance & Repairs

• Carry out routine handyman tasks including minor repairs, painting, basic carpentry, and fixture/furniture fixes.
• Inspect the site for maintenance issues and report or resolve them as appropriate.
• Support with upkeep of tools, equipment, and site infrastructure.
• Assist the facilities team with small maintenance projects and improvements.

Warehouse & Operational Support

• Assist warehouse teams with ad-hoc tasks such as moving stock, setting up work areas, or supporting loading/unloading.
• Follow all site safety procedures, reporting hazards and incidents immediately.
• Operate equipment such as pallet trucks, forklifts, or yard vehicles

Skills & Experience Required

• Experience in a yard, warehouse, labourer, groundskeeping, or handyman role (preferred but not essential).
• Basic skills in DIY, repairs, and using hand tools.
• Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
• Physically fit and capable of manual handling.
• Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to work independently and prioritise tasks.
• Valid forklift licence is a bonus (but training may be provided).

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: £12.21 per hour

Expected hours: 37.5 per week
