Band 6 Charge Nurse – Acute Surgical Receiving Ward (30 Beds)

North Directorate Glasgow Royal Infirmary

Are you a motivated and experienced surgical nurse looking to take the next step in your leadership journey?

We are seeking dynamic and compassionate Band 6 Charge Nurses to join our 30-bed Acute Surgical Receiving Ward — the frontline of surgical admissions within the North Directorate.

This fast-paced, high-acuity ward plays a vital role in the assessment, stabilisation, and early management of patients presenting with a wide range of acute surgical conditions. You will work closely with the Senior Charge Nurse (SCN) to provide visible clinical leadership, supporting your colleagues to deliver safe, timely, and person-centred care.

One of these posts will have a Practice Development focus, offering an exciting opportunity to lead on education, mentorship, and the ongoing professional growth of our nursing team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the SCN in the daily coordination and leadership of the ward.
  • Act as a visible clinical leader and role model for high-quality, evidence-based care.
  • Promote a supportive, learning-oriented environment where staff can thrive.
  • Work collaboratively with surgical teams, AHPs, and other key stakeholders.
  • Contribute to initiatives that enhance patient outcomes, safety, and experience.
  • (For the Practice Development role) Lead on staff education, mentorship, and skills development.

About You

  • Registered Nurse (Adult) with substantial post-registration experience.
  • Proven ability to take charge and lead within an acute or surgical environment.
  • Passionate about supporting and developing others.
  • Confident in managing complex clinical situations with professionalism and empathy.
  • Committed to ongoing learning, quality improvement, and patient-centred care.
