Job Description Summary

We are seeking a Requirements Management Engineer to join our Naval business. The successful candidate will be responsible for the ingestion, exchange, and lifecycle management of customer requirements. You will play a key role in ensuring that customer, regulatory, and internally generated requirements are accurately captured, structured, and flowed down to sub-systems, components, and equipment procurement specifications as well as ensuring, through regularly reviews, that equipment designs will comply with their allocated requirements.

This position demands close collaboration with system design, equipment design, safety, and procurement teams to ensure that requirements comprehensively reflect technical regulations, standards, internal design practices, design decisions, Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA), and safety considerations.

The successful candidate will also be expected to contribute to continuous improvement activities and and help to refine the processes around requirements management and traceability to improve teams' and customers' experiences.

Roles and Responsibilities

Ready for a new, exciting career opportunity, you will report directly to the Naval Engineering Leader, collaborating with a diverse engineering and business community.

Working in a class-leading, multi-disciplinary team of engineers you will bring your extensive expertise in requirements management, ideally with knowledge of relevant military standards, class rules and regulatory requirements.

You will have responsibility for the following activities:

  • Ingest and manage customer requirements into the requirements management system, ensuring clarity, accuracy, and traceability.
  • Support the customer with refinement and clarification of requirements, ensuring that rationale and discussions are well documented and communicated with the project teams.
  • Define and maintain requirement hierarchies, allocating and flowing down requirements to sub-systems, components, and procurement specifications.
  • Incorporate internal requirements derived from:
  • Technical regulations and standards
  • Internal design practices
  • System design decisions
  • FMEA outputs
  • Safety analyses and requirements
  • Ensure bi-directional traceability between customer-level and lower-tier requirements.
  • Support requirement reviews with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Provide guidance and training to engineering teams on requirements management best practice and use of requirements management tools.
  • Collaborate with system engineers and design teams to ensure requirements remain consistent, feasible, and verifiable throughout the lifecycle.
  • Support compliance activities by producing audit-ready requirements documentation and traceability reports.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of requirements management processes, templates, and methods.
Qualifications/Requirements
  • Degree in Systems Engineering, Mechanical/Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Hands-on experience with IBM ELM (DOORS Next, Engineering Workflow Management, Engineering Test Management, or equivalent requirements management tools).
  • Proven track record of managing complex requirements decomposition and allocation in an engineering environment.
  • Understanding of systems engineering principles, V-model, and lifecycle management.
  • Experience in requirements flow-down to procurement specifications and supplier management.
  • Knowledge of regulatory, safety, and quality standards in engineering.
  • Ability to produce clear, structured, and traceable requirements documentation.
  • Is a sole UK National and holds, or be eligible to obtain, UK security clearance to SC level.
Desired characteristics
  • Experience in naval, defence, aerospace, or power & propulsion systems.
  • Familiarity with FMEA, safety engineering, and risk management.
  • Chartered Engineer or working towards professional registration.
  • Knowledge of configuration management and change control processes.
  • Knowledge of classification rules, e.g. DNV, ABS, Lloyds for marine.
  • Ability to multi-task on a variety of projects to strict timescales, excellent communication skills, good report writing skills, well organised.
  • Hold a UK Driving Licence and be willing to travel within base country and overseas for short-term working.
