Media Development
For 40 years, we have promoted the highest standards in journalism by training reporters around the world to cover issues relevant to their local context, accurately and impartially. Today, we work to strengthen local and national journalism, improve media ethics, standards and regulation, combat misinformation, and explore and shape the future of the profession. We do this through newsroom consultancy, journalism training and mentoring, capacity-building, and via our funding of the Reuters Institute for the Study of Journalism at the University of Oxford.
 

Free Legal Assistance (TrustLaw)
We run the world's largest pro bono legal network, TrustLaw. Working with leading law firms, we facilitate free legal support, groundbreaking research and resources for NGOs and social enterprises in 175 countries. By spreading the practice of pro bono worldwide we strengthen civil society and drive social change. Our network has grown to 6,500 members, including more than 1,000 law firms and in-house legal teams.
 

Convening Initiatives
We convene experts to build global awareness of critical issues linked to our areas of work, to inspire collective leadership and to help shape a prosperous world where no one is left behind. Our annual flagship event, Trust Conference, brings together frontline activists, thought leaders and top decision-makers in the areas of media freedom, inclusive economies, and human rights. Other initiatives include thematic working groups convened around the world to share expertise, drive new partnerships, facilitate media coverage and produce legal research.

We are seeking a Senior Communications Manager to join our busy Communications team and contribute towards the organisation's external communications efforts. Reporting to the Global Director of Communications, this is an incredible opportunity to land a senior role in a fast-growing corporate Foundation working on some of the world's most pressing issues.

About You

As Senior Communications Manager at the Thomson Reuters Foundation, you will:

• Lead on the planning and execution of impactful and strategic communications campaigns for key initiatives arising from the Foundation's core thematic areas of work
• Act as the Communications lead for one of the Foundation's thematic focus areas, establishing and leading on delivery of an annual comms workplan to support its core objectives
• Develop and lead content partnerships, strengthening and diversifying partners and overseeing deliverables for key Foundation initiatives
• Represent the Foundation at external meetings and on calls with partners and donors when needed, and build relationships with their relevant comms teams
• Provide support to the Senior Leadership Team in the form of speeches, briefings and talking points for external speaking engagements
• Support the wider organisation's external communication needs; identify content to be promoted, set strategic objectives and devise creative distribution plans using data-driven learnings where appropriate, collaborating on design, audience and social media strategies
• Devise press outreach and liaison strategies as and when required
• Write and edit a wide variety of internal and external communications materials that may include opinion editorials, content for social and digital platforms, press releases, newsletters, the Foundation's annual report, and various other documents promoting the organisation's work
• Support on the communications activities around key Foundation events including Trust Conference, ensuring consistency in quality
• Provide guidance and feedback where appropriate for more junior members of the Communications Team

About the Role

To be our Senior Communications Manager, you will likely:

• Have proven experience working in a communications capacity, ideally for an international organisation or a fast-paced industry
• Be an excellent communicator with strong verbal, writing and interpersonal skills
• Be an exceptional writer, with excellent pitching, editing and proof-reading skills
• Have exceptional organisational skills and an ability to juggle multiple workstreams and to prioritise and deliver accordingly
• Have proven experience of working with a variety of internal and external stakeholders and be confident representing your team and organisation in the appropriate environment
• Be able to work independently and proactively
• Have rigorous attention to detail and a strong focus on accuracy, and exceptional research and analytical skills
• Have an ability to work creatively, speedily and accurately under pressure
• Have a personal interest in social, humanitarian and/or environmental issues
• Fluency in English is essential, and additional languages are an advantage
• Experience in the development sector and/or charity sector, project management skills and a passion and understanding for the work of the Foundation are desired but not essential
