Head Vet – Liverpool

Liverpool, Liverpool, United Kingdom Candor Health Full time

Lead a talented team. Shape clinical standards. Create a place where vets can thrive.

If you're ready to lead without losing yourself, this might be the role you have been hoping to find

If you are a capable vet who has reached the point where you want more influence, more purpose, and more space to do things properly, this Head Vet role offers a chance to lead with clarity instead of chaos. If you are tired of firefighting and want to build something meaningful with a team who genuinely wants to grow, this could be the change that feels like a reset.

The Opportunity

We are working with a purpose-built small animal practice in Liverpool, that has created an environment where clinical ambition and compassion sit side by side. They are looking for a Head Vet who can guide the team forward, shape clinical excellence, and build a culture where everyone feels proud of the care they deliver.

You will not just be keeping things ticking along. They want a clinician who enjoys mentoring, upskilling colleagues, and developing consistent, gold standard, evidence based care. Someone who can see the bigger picture and still enjoy the day to day moments that make practice meaningful.

Your week is designed to be sustainable. You will work four days a week with one in four weekends. There is no standard out of hours, only a requirement to be on call for any overnight inpatients. The intention is simple. Protect your energy so you can lead well.

Why This Role Is Different

A practice built for modern medicine

  • Purpose built, spacious clinic with excellent facilities.
  • Designed to keep patients calm and colleagues supported.
  • A growing caseload with room to develop new services.

A team committed to progressing together

  • A mix of vets and nurses already pursuing certificates.
  • Clear focus on continuous development without ego or pressure.
  • Leadership genuinely welcomes new ideas and clinical initiatives.

A culture that prioritises growth, not burnout

  • Internal leadership training provided and encouraged.
  • CPD is not a tick box. It is a lived expectation at every level.
  • Colleagues are supported to close skill gaps rather than hide them.

A stable, independent group with a clear mission

  • Part of one of the UK's largest independent veterinary groups.
  • Strong emphasis on community care and long term relationships.
  • Investment is ongoing, both in people and in facilities.

Your Journey Here

In Your First Month:

You will settle into the rhythm of the team, get to know their existing processes, and begin to understand what they are proud of and where they want support. This stage is about connection rather than change.

By Three Months:

You will be confidently leading clinical standards, supporting vets day to day, and introducing small but meaningful improvements that help the whole team deliver more consistent, evidence based care.

By Six Months:

You will be shaping strategy alongside the management team, developing colleagues through coaching, and embedding new clinical initiatives that lift standards across the surgery. Your leadership will be visible in both outcomes and culture.

What Is On Offer

Compensation and Time Off

  • Salary from £70,000
  • Four day week with one in four weekends
  • Twenty five days holiday plus bank holidays
  • No standard out of hours
