Project Lead

Leiston, Suffolk, United Kingdom EDF Energy Limited Full time £45,461 - £95,993 per year

About the Role

Outage Project Lead

The Opportunity

An exciting and rewarding role has arisen for the role of Outage Project Lead at our Sizewell B Nuclear Power Station in Suffolk.

Sizewell B is currently the UK's only Pressurised Water Reactor. We are designed to run at full period for a period of 18 months and then shutdown to refuel and compete essential maintenance, this is known as an Outage. The Outage Department prepares, plans and delivers these multi-million pound projects to ensure that Sizewell B delivers maximum power output and continues to provide low-carbon electricity to millions of homes and businesses across the UK.

As Project Lead in the Outage Department, you will lead a team and be accountable for delivering your teams' outage goals, safely, to time and cost to satisfy the station's business targets. Working on the current outage will mean leading part of the preparation and execution, mitigating risks and successfully delivering the scope safely and to plan. In this role you will be required to interact with multiple stakeholders, both internal and external to the Station, to ensure that your outage goals are met. You may be required to work appropriate shift patterns during the outage, which may include nights.

Pay, benefits and culture

We offer a competitive salary from £45,461 - £95,993 and you'll be appointed based on the parameters outlined in the Nuclear Generation Company Agreement as well as your existing salary, competence, experience and qualifications.

We're talking about everything from enhanced parental leave to electric vehicle leasing, health insurance to product discounts, critical illness insurance to technology vouchers, gym membership to season ticket loans.

At EDF UK, we embrace flexibility while recognising that everyone's working needs are different. Whether you're in our office spaces, on site, or working remotely, we promote an environment that supports collaboration, connection, and comfort. No matter where you are, our priority is to make sure you feel safe, valued, and celebrated.

Here, we do right by each other and everyone's welcome. We're on an action-oriented journey, championing equity, diversity, and inclusion. We'd like our future workforce to have an equal gender balance, represent a broad mix of people from minority ethnic backgrounds, LGBTQ+, those with a disability and supporting social mobility.

We're a disability confident employer and we'll do all we can to help with your application. Please let us know if you need to request reasonable adjustments.

We take pride in fostering a dynamic and inclusive environment, where the diverse backgrounds and experiences of our employees drive fresh thinking and innovation. We understand that success means different things to different people. We believe there are multiple definitions of what it means to succeed. That's why we support you to pursue a career that's unique to you. Because success is personal.

What you will be doing

Managing preparation and delivery of the current outage, you work will include:

  • Over an 18-month cycle, taking ownership of the project preparation from the multi-year team and leading a team to prepare and execute the given scope within your project area
  • Close monitoring of your work scope throughout the outage, effectively communicating any threats to delivery and driving necessary resolutions
  • Managing the discovery milestones and associated contingency plans within your project and ensuring that high quality standards are maintained
  • Maintaining strong relationships and effective communication with delivery crews to ensure that common services are effectively utilised across all projects, minimising the impact of emergent work on the plan
  • Providing problem resolution within the project
  • Critically reviewing the preparation and delivery of the project and drive improvements to the project in each outage cycle.

Who you are

We would love to hear from you if you have Project Management experience or experience leading a multi-discipline team in a delivery environment. If you have experience in energy or high hazard industry, then that may be an advantage but not essential. Great communication skills, attention to detail with a calm, measured approach and the ability to effectively prioritise are all essential. Discretion when handling sensitive information is important, alongside the ability to challenge and adopt a questioning attitude to ensure that safety remains our overriding priority.

As a minimum, you will have a relevant HNC (or equivalent) and holding a relevant degree may be an advantage. You should have the enthusiasm, drive, ownership and ability to facilitate change, for which excellent interpersonal skills are paramount. This will also mean you should have the ability to manage cross-functional working groups, encouraging a team ethos to help develop and deliver effective work programmes.

Closing date for applications is 16th December. Interviews will take place early January.

To be appointed to this role, you will need to meet the criteria for Counter Terrorist Check (CTC) which will, ordinarily, require you to have British residency for the last 3 years.
