Become a Infrastructure Engineer

Reporting to the Infrastructure Manager, you'll be a key player in supporting our infrastructure and delivering projects to teams across our Stores, Distribution Centre (DC), Support Centre (SC), and our ecommerce website.

You'll be a critical thinker, taking ownership, and be comfortable working both strategically and tactically. You'll stay on top of the latest trends in both on-prem and cloud infrastructure, always looking for opportunities to apply new solutions that benefit The Works. You'll also have the chance to demonstrate leadership, providing technical guidance and support to junior members of the team.

As an ambitious, technically proficient, and solutions-driven Infrastructure Engineer, you will work within our dynamic Technology Services team, covering on-premise, cloud, cyber security, infrastructure systems, and networks.

Your Mission
  • Incident Support - Act as the go-to expert for 3rd line incidents across servers, storage, network, and 365, driving root cause analysis and improvements. Spot trends in incident tickets to tackle bigger issues and reduce future incidents.
  • Infrastructure Design & Implementation - Design, plan, and implement systems across cloud, VMware, storage, and networks. Collaborate with the PMO on cost proposals and project plans, balancing business needs with tech requirements.
  • Network Support - Manage and optimise network infrastructure, ensuring performance, availability, and security across DC switching, firewalls, MPLS, and SDWAN.
  • Storage & Infrastructure Support - Maintain on-prem storage and infrastructure systems, keeping them secure, fast, and reliable.
  • Server Support - Install, configure, and maintain physical and virtual servers, ensuring performance, security, and reliability with regular updates and monitoring.
  • O365 & Cloud Support - Manage O365 and Azure platforms to support innovation while maintaining security.
  • Leadership - Mentor junior team members, lead complex projects, and ensure all infrastructure has a documented lifecycle and refresh plan.

  • VMware Pro - Proficient in the full VMware lifecycle, from design and build to management and maintenance.
  • Active Directory Whiz - Master of Active Directory, including AAD, GPOs, and UAC, ensuring everything runs smoothly.
  • Office 365 Specialist - Champion of Office 365 management and continuous improvements, always optimising the user experience.
  • Network & Firewall Expert – Hands-on with network switches and firewalls, with the ability to troubleshoot and resolve issues independently.
  • Automation Enthusiast - Strong background in automation technologies to make everything run more efficiently.

  • Intune Master - Deep knowledge of managing Intune policies and configurations, and troubleshooting autonomously.
  • ITIL Aligned - Experienced in working within an ITIL-based environment, always focusing on the bigger business impact.
  • Project Delivery Pro - Proven track record in delivering complex projects and owning workstreams within larger programmes.
  • Cyber Security Advocate - Strong understanding of security principles with a "security first" approach to infrastructure design.
  • PCI compliance experience - ensuring systems meet security and compliance standards.
  • Docker and Containers - familiarity with containers like Docker to enhance flexibility and scalability.
