Job Overview

We are seeking a skilled and reliable Digger Driver to join our construction team. The successful candidate will be responsible for operating excavators and other plant machinery to support groundwork, site preparation, and construction tasks. This role requires strong machine-handling skills, attention to safety, and the ability to work efficiently on busy sites. Applicants should be experienced, safety-conscious, and capable of working both independently and as part of a team.

Responsibilities

  • Operate excavators and other plant machinery safely and efficiently for digging, trenching, grading, and general groundwork tasks
  • Carry out daily equipment checks, including fluid levels, hoses, and safety systems
  • Follow site plans, instructions, and marking-out lines to ensure accurate digging and excavation
  • Assist with general groundworks such as backfilling, levelling, and moving materials when required
  • Load and unload materials or waste into vehicles using machinery
  • Maintain the machine in clean, good working condition and report any faults or maintenance needs promptly
  • Adhere strictly to health and safety regulations and site rules at all times
  • Work collaboratively with groundworkers, site supervisors, and other trades to complete tasks efficiently

Skills

  • Proven experience operating excavators or other diggers on construction sites
  • Valid CPCS or NPORS card (essential for most sites)
  • Good understanding of groundworks, excavation depths, and safe digging practices
  • Ability to read site plans and follow verbal and written instructions
  • Strong awareness of site safety and hazard prevention
  • Physical fitness to carry out manual tasks as required
  • Reliable, punctual, and able to work effectively as part of a team

Job Type: Freelance

Pay: £13.73-£21.50 per hour
