Role Overview

The firm is seeking an experienced payroll professional to join its Finance team, taking responsibility for leading payroll operations across the group. The role involves ensuring accurate, timely payroll processing, managing compliance, liaising with internal stakeholders and external vendors, and supporting broader accounting and finance processes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the full payroll process for multiple entities / jurisdictions
  • Ensure compliance with local payroll, tax, and social security legislation
  • Coordinate with HR / People Operations on inputs (e.g. new hires, terminations, benefits, changes)
  • Oversee relationships with payroll service providers and third-party vendors
  • Prepare payroll reconciliations, journal entries, and variance analyses
  • Assist with month-end / year-end accounting close activities as they relate to payroll
  • Maintain and improve payroll controls, policies, and procedures
  • Respond to internal audits and external reviews as needed
  • Provide support and guidance to finance team on payroll-related matters

Requirements / Skills

  • Professional accounting qualification (e.g. ACCA / ACA / CIMA, or equivalent)
  • Significant experience in payroll management, ideally within professional services / investment / private equity environment
  • Strong technical knowledge of payroll legislation, tax, social security, and employment law (UK and cross-border)
  • Excellent Excel / analytical skills
  • Strong attention to detail, organisational ability, and accuracy under deadline pressure
  • Good communication skills — ability to interface with internal stakeholders, service providers, auditors
  • Ability to drive process improvements, automation, standardisation
  • Experience with payroll systems / ERP / integrated systems
