Job Summary

Provides direction and oversight for clinical application suites including inpatient and ancillary departments within the IT organization. Responsible for providing operational leadership by architecting and implementing industry best- practice software solutions that support the clinical application and third party systems necessary for the clinical operations of the Prisma Health integrated delivery system and provider network. Has input into the Prisma Health IT Strategic Planning process and will participate in the development of the systems tools, technologies and resources required to execute on the clinical application,ancillary department (ex. lab, pharmacy), training and informatics plan. Combines expert knowledge of patient care and ancillary department operations, informatics concepts, and change management to effectively represent the information and knowledge needs and requirements of healthcare professionals and patients. Promotes safe, effective, and efficient use of information technology in all clinical settings, working to resolve issues, enhance solution adoption/satisfaction, drive standardization, leverage data to solve problems, and promote innovation. Serves as an enterprise leader and change agent in shared governance, performance improvement committees, and participation in clinical and ancillary department strategy. This role includes financial management, vendor management and contractual responsibilities for applications and systems in their area of responsibility. Responsible for the coaching and development of employees assuring that the team's productivity is within best practice guidelines for the industry.

Essential Functions

  • Develops tactical ITS plan based on strategic plan and objectives.  Ensure that project plans are developed, communicated, maintained and utilized to manage the specific project initiatives. Assist in the development of strategic plans by participating in information gathering, defining potential projects, and developing estimates and timelines. Directs all aspects of system selection with particular focus on development of contractual requirements, including Prisma Health legal review, and takes leadership role in negotiating contracts. Works with the leadership team throughout Prisma Health to coordinate all project efforts through Information Security, Compliance, Enterprise PMO.

  • Develops and trains personnel on internal standards for implementation planning, work plan development, project management, system support and customer service. Integrates process improvement and incorporates change management approaches in application implementation projects. Develops staff with appropriate skills to meet the needs of assigned areas of responsibility. Maintains a skills inventory of all team members in division. Ensures development plans are used and encourages staff to grow in career opportunities. Creates appropriate succession plans for areas of responsibility.

  • Develops and manages vendor relationships ensuring that contractual terms and conditions are adhered to both by the vendor and Prisma Health.

  • Manages relationships with internal Prisma Health customers (departments and management) through customer satisfaction surveys, service level reporting, and customer communication. Provides the customer facing communication mechanism for all of IS for standard operating issues.

  • Responsible for entire lifecycle of clinical and ancillary application support including vendor selection, implementation, maintenance and support

  • Develops annual capital and operating budget and staffing plans for the clinical and ancillary system teams that relates to ongoing support of Service Level Agreements (SLA) and to support strategic project requirements. Develops and implements appropriate departmental productivity measurements.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Supervisory/Management Responsibilities

  • Job has direct and/or indirect supervision of employees that may include final budget authority, hire/termination/disciplinary authority, performance appraisal responsibility. Job will be considered a member of the management staff with direct reports.

Minimum Requirements

  • Education - Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Business Management, Health Informatics, or related field of study. Master's degree preferred

  • Experience - Eight (8) years application support experience in one or more of the following domains: workflow design, database management, application development, business analysis, project management, clinical systems management, interface, integration or data warehousing. IT managerial experience. Healthcare experience preferred

  • In lieu of the education and experience requirements noted above an equivalent combination of work/academic experience may be considered.

Required Certifications, Registrations, Licenses

  • CPHIMS (Certified Professional in Health Information Management Systems)- Preferred

  • Epic Certification – Preferred

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Proficient computer skills

  • Clinical nursing experience - Preferred

  • Demonstrated clinical credibility, combined with broad expertise in informatics and strong technical background to be effective in Medical, Nursing or Information Services Divisions – Preferred
