About the role

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an exceptional individual to join Eccles Sixth Form College as Head of Department for Life Sciences on a maternity cover basis. This high-performing department encompasses Applied Science, Animal, Equine, and Veterinary Nursing provisions, and we are seeking a dynamic and dedicated professional to continue leading and developing these outstanding areas during the maternity cover period.

Our students benefit from access to exceptional, industry-standard facilities, including:

  • A brand-new animal unit housing a diverse range of species such as small mammals, exotics, and farm animals.
  • A fully equipped veterinary nursing suite.
  • A riding school with over 50 horses and outstanding equestrian facilities.
  • Modern laboratories that provide an excellent learning environment for Applied Science students.

Courses within the department run from Level 1 through to Level 4, offering varied pathways in Animal Management, Equine Studies, Veterinary Nursing, and Applied Science.

The successful candidate will be:

  • An outstanding teacher and experienced manager, with a proven track record of implementing quality improvement strategies across teaching and learning.
  • Skilled in monitoring and evaluating performance indicators to drive improvements in attendance, achievement, and student progress.
  • A forward-thinking and creative leader, committed to delivering the highest quality learning experiences.
  • An excellent communicator and organiser, capable of working collaboratively with staff, students, and external partners.
