Leeds, Leeds, United Kingdom Entain Full time £60,000 - £120,000 per year
Company Description

Angstrom is a proprietary sports pricing and product provider, building intricate, simulation driven pricing and risk systems to support the success of key sports brands across the Entain group.

Founded in 2018 and having established itself as a pioneer in player-level, play-by-play simulations and forecasting, Angstrom was acquired by Entain in 2023. Today, we operate as a semi-autonomous division, responsible for delivering the group's most advanced pricing and risk capabilities with a focus on the US market. We're committed to building the next generation of sports betting products — sports-first, recreationally-focused, and designed to make betting more engaging, more intelligent, and more fun.

We're proud to be a high-performing, low-ego team where brilliant people are empowered and people work to become brilliant. While we're ambitious and delivery-driven, we take real pride in how we operate and the health of our independent culture, underpinned by mutual trust and respect.

Job Description

We're looking for an Engineering Manager who will lead and develop a high-performing engineering department. You'll oversee several engineering teams and test functions, helping them continue to grow, collaborate effectively, and deliver outstanding results.

This isn't a role about proving whether something can be done — we already know our teams are capable. The challenge is shaping how we work: fostering the right environment, structure, culture, and processes so every engineer can do their best work and love what they do.

The ideal candidate is an exceptional people manager first, with the ability to motivate, coach, and elevate already strong engineers. While experience in mobile apps or sports betting is a bonus, it's not essential, what matters is your ability to build cohesion, improve ways of working, and create a place where people feel proud to belong.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and develop a growing engineering department.
  • Coach and mentor engineers and team leads, supporting career growth, performance, and wellbeing.
  • Shape how we work by refining processes, communication patterns, ceremonies, and team structures to suit the people and the work.
  • Build a strong, positive engineering culture focused on collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Work closely with Product and Strategy to ensure alignment, clarity of direction, and genuinely shared ownership.
  • Encourage and maintain high technical standards, while empowering teams to own solutions and decisions.
  • Strengthen our office culture by being present, approachable, and engaged; helping make our office a great place to work.
  • Help teams identify and remove delivery blockers, ensuring they have what they need to succeed.
  • Model pragmatic, thoughtful decision-making; balancing innovation, speed, quality, and sustainability.
Qualifications
  • A proven people-first leader who knows how to bring out the best in others.
  • Experienced managing multiple engineering teams or a department-level group.
  • Able to build trust quickly and communicate clearly, openly, and respectfully.
  • Comfortable adapting and inventing ways of working that fit the people, rather than enforcing a one-size-fits-all approach.
  • Motivated by developing talent, building team identity, and improving culture.
  • Welcomes collaboration and discussion, not threatened by healthy challenges.
  • Someone who enjoys being in the office and naturally contributes to a positive shared environment.

Desirable:

  • Experience in mobile application development.
  • Experience in sports betting, gaming, or related high-scale transactional domains.
  • Previous experience leading organisational change or scaling teams.

Experience with some of these technologies, programming languages:

  • Programming Languages: JavaScript, TypeScript
  • Frameworks: React Native, Angular,
  • Databases & AWS Services: Lambda, S3, DynamoDB, SQL, NoSQL
Additional Information

At Entain, we know that signing top players requires a great starting package, and plenty of support to inspire peak performance. Join us, and a competitive salary is just the beginning.

Depending on your role and location, you can expect to receive benefits like

  • Generous bonus scheme
  • Private medical insurance
  • Pension Scheme - matched to 6%
  • Ability to buy and sell holiday
  • Entain & Enhance days
  • Sharesave Scheme
  • A collaborative and creative team culture that encourages innovation.
  • Professional development opportunities and support for continuous learning.

And outside of this, you'll have the chance to turn recognition from leaders and colleagues into amazing prizes, join a winning team of talented people and be a part of an inclusive and supporting community where everyone is celebrated for being themselves.
