Senior Data Engineer

Working Hours:37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday plus participation in the on-call rota

We are seeking a talented and experienced Senior Data Engineer to join our dynamic team and play a pivotal role in shaping our data infrastructure and strategy.

You'll bring real-world experience in both technical disciplines and stakeholder management, while supporting the development of the wider Data Engineering team.

Key Responsibilities:

• Design, build, and maintain scalable data pipelines and architectures to support business needs.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand data requirements and deliver effective solutions.
• Optimise and enhance data systems for performance, reliability, and scalability.
• Implement best practices for data governance, security, and compliance.
• Mentor junior team members and contribute to the growth of the Data Engineering team.

About You

• Proven experience in data development and ETL pipeline design, as well as performance management skills such as query plan optimisation and database indexing.
• Extensive knowledge of SQL, including the ability to articulate and use the latest versions and features of SQL Server and Azure SQL.
• Experience developing with cloud technologies such as Azure SQL, Azure Data Factory, Synapse, and Microsoft Fabric, with awareness of graph database approaches.
• Strong teamwork and communication skills, with the ability to convey technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
• Excellent troubleshooting, problem-solving, and critical thinking abilities.
• A pivotal role in implementing the data strategy, ensuring best practices are followed throughout the team.
• Ability to provide support, coaching, and mentoring to new and junior team members.
• Experience with Wherescape Red or Wherescape 3D would be advantageous.
